Mangalore, Jan 20: "While most of the temples in the coastal region are engaged only in pujas and devotional activities, it is commendable that Sri Bhoothanathewara Temple has been doing the work of uniting Tulunadu through rural sports," said Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Udupi Pejawar Math.

He was speaking on the second day of Sri Bhoothanateshwara Kreedotsava-III organized under the aegis of Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple at Mijar here on Saturday January 19.

"Rural sports events should be held with the aim of encouraging the traditional games of Tulunadu and giving a platform to people to showcase their skills. In this regard, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty's efforts in realizing his dream deserves much applause. He has set an example with his work in various fields, be it social, cultural, sports, religious, or others," he added.

Actress Shubha Poonja who inaugurated the day's events said that she was happy to be part of the rural sports event, which reminded her of the days when she used to visit rural games with her mother. "These days when only cricket is getting all the limelight, it is great that Vijaynath Shetty is striving to bring rural sports to the mainstream," she added.

Vijaynath Shetty's mother Premalata Shetty, son Manav Shetty, leader Kantappa Shetty and others were present.

Various competitions and activities are being held as part of the three-day event. Cycle race, arm wrestingling, talent show, mud wresting, tug-of-war and many other games were held on the second day.

The event has also had a touch of glamour with the presence of several Sandalwood personalities. Music director Gurukiran, cricketers Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar, actor Prem and others are expected to participate.

Thoroughly entertaining programmes, involving everybody in it, young and old, males and females, all. Really wonderful!
Our coastal region people were in very badly need such programmes. Most of them are engrossed in work and politics only.
    No entertainment! So Sad!
Politics is o.k. but anything too much is bad.
U.P. & Bihar, once considered to be model states came to this level because of excessive politics!

We need to promote and patronise, rural games, folkplays, dramas, plays with values and morales and need to have indegenous entertainment system for the villages and urbanites so that family values and social values are reinstalled, promoted and vices are eliminated. Social evils like rape, dowry and female foeticide can effectively be contained through these dramas and unity and brotherhood can be achieved. Good luck to you all.
