Mangalore, Jan 24: Eid Milad-un-Nabi which marks the birthday of Prophet Mohammed was celebrated with fervour by the Muslim community in the city on Thursday January 24.

Prayers were offered in various mosques where the faithful gathered in large numbers to meet and greet each other.

A procession too was carried out in the city, with people dressed in traditional attires marching along, accompanied by 'dafli' and music bands. Colourful banners and buntings added to the festivity.

The day marks both the birth and death of Prophet Mohammed, hence the celebrations are often low-key as compared to other major Muslim festivals. Many of the families choose not to celebrate the occasion.

The day is observed by conducting relgious and social service-oriented activities and discourses on the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammed. A message encouraging believers to follow the path of the Prophet reverberates across mosques.

maashaAllah. It is human to rejoice on the receipt of any good thing or favour. Even a kid rejoices when he receives a chocolate. Every man rejoices on innumerable occasions at different stages of life. The believers are the chosen ones thats why they celebrate the milad of the Beloved Prophet. Almighty Allah says that he has made an obligation/favour on momins by sending His apostle amongst them. Others need not celebrateas they are not the ones who are addressed. The Apostle is the Mercy for all the worlds, but at the time of milad, the Lord Himself says : I have sent and made an favour on the faithfuls/momins. Wishing you all and all the momins the best on the occasion, with dua in His court to protect the faithfuls from the fitna of shaitan and its followers. ameen. Lateef khan

Prophet Mohammed has come with the message of universal brotherhood, peace and equality which are infinite in nature and should be implemented by all humanity. It will be wrong to confine him to Muslims alone as he stood and fought for a better, equal and just society.
I wish all my Muslim brothers and sisters “Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi”. Please promote brotherhood, peace and equality of all Indians.
