Dubai, Jan 27: Sheik Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of The Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates while joining in the festivities of the NITK 8th Global Alumni Convention held at Atlantis, The Palm Dubai on Friday January 25 reflected on the significance of being an alumnus from any institution of higher education and mesmerized the NITK Alumni members through following 3 important messages.

First, being an alumnus declare that you were admitted and that you studied successfully at your institution. Second, being an alumnus also suggests that you share a particular educational experience with fellow alumni and third, being an alumnus means that your reputation is, to a certain extent, defined by the record of all alumni together.

Elaborating further Sheik Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan expressed that when a school such as NITK is known to have high entrance standards and to demand high levels of academic performance, being an alumnus indicates a high level of intelligence and achievement Indeed NITK took you in and cared for you. It attended to far more than the mastery of your academic subject. It changed your life.

Quoting the example of the impressive, well-known record of Kundapur Vaman Kamath which has provoked great global admiration for NITK alumni Sheik Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan informed that outstanding success achieved by only one alumnus can raise the reputation of all alumni.

Further, as NITK alumni are professing knowledge and preparing the next generations to carry on their work in the future Sheik Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan urged NITK Alumni to take that role seriously.

With the quote of famous Swedish botanist Linnaeus “A professor can never better distinguish himself in his work than by encouraging a clever pupil, for the true discoverers are among them, as comets among the stars.” Sheik Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan stated that In our country the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, likewise noted that the future depends on today’s teaching and learning when he said that (and I quote) “educating the individual is this country’s most valuable investment. It represents the foundation for progress and development.” Supported steadfastly by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, that belief has powered the phenomenal progress of the United Arab Emirates.

Good show. The photographs looked impressive but did not have any explanations or titles of the people in them. How about having the nest global meet in Washington D.C., USA. I am sure that Rahm Shastry of California, USA should be able to organise and coordinate such an event. I specified Washington D.C. since it is central geographically for North America and there are over 2500 Alumni in North America (USA and Canada) who will gladly attend such an event given advance notice.
