Kasargod: One dead, 20 injured as bus overturns near Bekal

Kasargod, Jan 29: One person died and 20 others were injured when a bus overturned near Bekal here on Monday January 28.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rahiman (29), the bus cleaner hailing from Mallapuram.

Among the injured, the condition of one woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore while the others are undergoing treatment in nearby hospitals.

Mohammed Faizi, Abhilash, Kasargod KSRTC bus depot conductor, Sukumaran Nayar (64), Abdulla (60), Vilasini (32), Safwan (22), Sharfuddin (22), Abdulla (44), Abdul Haji (55) and many more were injured.

The bus was plying from Kozhikode to Kasargod.

Sources said that the accident occurred at around 4.30 pm when the driver tried to overtake a lorry and lost control of the bus.

It is also learnt that the bus was stopped by the locals a week ago for speeding and was left with a warning.

Bekal police have registered a case.

    Very Sad for the people inured and the person who died. May his Soul Rest in peace. May God touch and heal all the injured. These days drivers want to overtake and drive very roughly..at the end accident. Driver should be punhished and his Licence to be taken back. Feel very sad for the people injured and suffering in the hospital.

    Mr. Nag,
    Knowing the condition of the bus,the driver should have been more careful.(This is what I have written in my comment below) Or else he should have refused to drive the bus .Instead he has exceeded the speed limit.Who is liable for punishment?

    Accidents happens mostly by the carelessness of the driver,sometime overspeed, mobile while running and sometime inexperience to his profession and each time the passenger is to suffer the most.

    At least with the pathetic condition of the bus,the driver should have driven the bus like a jatka bandi keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.
