Mangalore: RSS gears up for mega convention - over one lac people expected

Mangalore, Feb 1: The stage is set for the ‘Vibhag Sanghik’ mega convention of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), to be held at Kenjar grounds, Bajpe here on Sunday February 3.
More than a lac people from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Kasargod districts are expected to take part. The programme will begin at 4.30 pm and end by 6 pm.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, the main speaker, will address the gathering for about 30-45 minutes.
Preparations for the historical event are on in full swing. At the venue, 65 acres of land has been levelled to accomodate the people. Seating arrangements have been for 20,000 people, while the rest will sitting on the ground.
A massive stage measuring 50 ft in width and 20 ft in height has been set up, along with another stage measuring 50 ft in width and 14 ft in height. The stages will be adjacent to each other. The main stage will have a backdrop of the same size as the stage and will contain messages of RSS.
Mohan Bhagwat, Suresh Joshi and Dr Vaman Shenoy will be on the main stage, while other top leaders of RSS will be seated in the smaller stage.
A flagpost 75 ft in height has also been installed at the venue.
Also, food has been arranged at nine places across the district for the benefit of people from far-flung places. Also, there will be six parking lots around a radius of 1.5 km at the venue.
The programme will kick-off with the RSS band and a drill for two minutes accompanied by songs, followed by flag-hoisting.
In order to avoid confusion and rush, people will be seated according to the places they come from. While leaving the venue, they will be let out in the same order. They will be given food packages consisting of buns, water and butter milk after the programme.
Excluding sponsorships, the event is being orgnanized at a cost of Rs 40 lac.
Addressing a press meet in this regard here on Friday February 1 Prakash P S, Vibhag Karyavaha and CEO of Hosadiganta said that RSS baithaks and sanghiks have been going on at village levels. "This programme has been organized to unite all Hindus, and to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda who is a role model to all youth," he said.
"RSS will not use any cut-outs, buntings or banners to promote the programme. Instead, it has been carrying out door-to-door visits to create awareness," he said, adding the main focus will be on youngsters above 8th std.
Dr Vaman Shenoy, Vibhag Sanchalak and Vadiraj, Prachar Pramukh were present.
"Begun in 1925 at Nagpur, the RSS had its first branch in Mangalore in 1940. In the last 7 decades, the growth and acceptance of Sangh in Mangalore is notable, has reached for almost 80% of the villages. The Mangalore Vibhag comprises 3 revenue districts namely Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu. Also, the Kannada spoken areas of Kerala’s northernmost Kasaragod district are also included in Mangalore Vibhag of RSS.
Through various social service projects run by RSS and Sangh inspired organisations, Mangalore Vibhag shows an exemplary model of Graam Vikas, (the schemes on rural development) especially noted villages like Idkidu, Palthaje etc. Swayamsevaks are running social projects ranging from education to health and agriculture to cooperative sector in Mangalore Vibhag," stated a press note by RSS.
