Bantwal, Feb 3: “Both the national parties - Congress and BJP - have been playing with the sentiments of the people of Karnataka by creating fights and tensions between the two major communities in the state,” said JD(S) state president H D Kumarswamy at the JD(S) convention held at Abdul Nazeer Saab Ground, Farangipet, on Saturday February 2.

Citing examples to support his statement, Kumarswamy said, “Since 20 years, Congress has been involved in the Idgah Maidan controversy and the BJP is misusing it.”

He blamed the Congress for the communal controversy at Baba Budangiri of Chikmagalur.

“To gain vote banks, both the parties have spoiled the peace in the state,” he said and added, “these parties are now involved with the new issue of naming the university after Tippu Sultan.”

Commenting on the procession conducted by Congress from Ullal to Udupi, Kumarswamy said, “Congress does not have a moral right to organize a procession in the name of ‘peace’ when it has been indirectly spoiling it.”

“In the last election campaign, BJP had asked for votes to bring change in the state. However, the present state of the government has disappointed all of us. The government has looted the state since four and half years,” he said.

He called upon the voters to support JD(S) candidates in the Pudu gram panchayat election that is scheduled to be held on Sunday February 17.

Speaking on the occasion, youth JD(S) state president Madhu Bangarappa said, “BJP is filled with corrupt people. The present maladministration in the state has led people into darkness.” He sought the support of the people for the JD(S).

DK district JD(S) president M B Sadashiva presided over the function. JD(S) leaders like Amaranath Shetty, B Nagaraj Shetty, Mohammed Kunji Vittal, Sadanand Shetty, M G Hegde, Chittaranjan Rai, Dr Udaykumar, Vasanth Poojary, Jayalaxmi Hegde, D S Aslam, Ranthnakar Suvarna, and Sowdarya Ramesh were present on the dais.

V H Abdul Kareem welcomed, Shashiraj thanked, and Aboobakkar Ammunje compeered the programme.
