Kasargod: Man with 14 kg saffron escapes from airport, held at railway station

Kasargod, Feb 6: Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), arrested a resident of Kasargod and seized 14 kg of saffron from him on Tuesday February 5.

The man has been identified as Arif of Pallikere, Kasargod district.

He arrived at Karipur Airport by Air India Express from Dubai, and was later caught at the railway station.

It is reported that Arif managed to escape from the airport. But, according to the tip off received, the officers of DRI successfully arrested him. The accused was trying to abscond from the railway station aboard the Chennai - Mangalore train.

The officers managed to nab him when there were just a few minutes left for the train to leave.

Upon examination of the baggage, the authorities found saffron concealed in a suitcase.

A case has been registered against the accused.
