Mangalore, Feb 7: The members of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike and PUCL on Thursday February 7 condemned the attack on Harish Putran, reporter of city-based Karavali Ale newspaper, during a protest staged in front of the DC's office here.

The protestors shouted slogans stating that the attackers had violated the journalist's freedom and termed them 'Indian Taliban'.

"The attackers are not protectors of culture, but Indian Taliban," they said.

Addressing the protestors, B V Seetharam, chief editor of Karavali Ale daily said this was not the first time a journalist had been attacked. He termed the assaulters as 'Taliban forces' and said that the attack happens whenever something is said against them. "Similarly, in this case, our reporter Putran was attacked as on February 6 he had written an article claiming that Hindu Jagrana Vedike activists had close links with with the drug mafia," he added.

"In addition, we are also receiving threat calls from them," he claimed.

"In this regard we have already filed a case in Suratkal police station and have contacted Justice Markandey Katju, chairman of Press Council of India. Police are not taking the matter seriously which shows that they are under pressure from top officials," he alleged, urging the police to book the attackers under non-bailable charges.

Ali Hassan, convener of Muslim Central Committee said the attackers are strongly backed by police and hence such kinds of incidents are frequently occuring. "If police do not respond in a positive way, then we do not need them. People are already commenting that the police department is the worst of all," he said.

"If this continues, we will gather more people and intensify our protest," he warned.

Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, president of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, P B D’Sa, vice-president of PUCL among others were present.

It appears that the Karnataka Government has given its blessings to the so called MORAL POLICE to fearlessly take law into their own hands would encourage many more groups to form their own MORAL POLICING according to their own perception of right & wrong. It looks neither the Police nor the Politicians are interested in the Law & order in the State. It is high time we vote out the current ineffective leaders and their party.

Why police are having double standard for common citizen and Sangh Parivars.
Bajrang Dal activists along with the police picked students smoking inside a cafe and the police did nothing.
The Rama Sene is time and again threatening to take law into their hand still the police are not arresting them. Now the print media that are not favourable to all the nonsense of Sangh Parivar are vandalised, attacked and threatened with life but our police are helpless. Why?
Is the right-wing radicals are above law? Is Mr. BV Seetharam not a law abiding citizen? Then why double standard?
Why double standard by the police and the judiciary?
Till date the police and the judiciary could not arrest Advani & Co., late Bal Thackeray & Co., Togadia & Co., Modi & Co., Mangalore's Bajrang Dal and Rama Sene leaders and Why? Will India progress in this fashion? This is what we want to teach our young India and the GenNext? It is high time that the police and the judiciary have to act without any prejudice and win the confidence of the minorities.
Like minded Hindus and the minorities are frustrated with this behaviour of our system. Bring a change in the system and act as per the guidelines in our constitution. Jai Hind!

How can any one mobilize a protest so fast with all that placards against today's attack on a reporter. It is like they were waiting for it. Is this a pre-planned and pre-cooked during pad yatra to malign the political opponents?

My dear Bd's,HVP,s,HJV's,and all connected Vedikes and Senes, can any one of you tell me which culture this 'ASSAULTING" belongs to ? Indian or Western?.When the Indians were beaten up by the Britishers during their rule we were very much hurt.A seed of hatred is sown within us showing several scenes of Indians being assaulted. If this type of attack is western culture, when we are crying for adoption of Indian culture , why are we continuing this culture.?Even after 65 years of Independence are we not civilized?
Those days there are instances where Indians were beaten up by the Indians itself on the instructions of the then rulers(Britishers). But in this Independent India we Indians are beating up our own Indian brothers On whose instructions? when are we going to change this borrowed culture?
If you feel this is a western culture, stop this and adopt Indian culture by respecting each other. If you feel this as Indian culture stop it forthwith and be more civilized.

Untill n unless we throw out this 100% communal government from our state we are continuously going to hear these incidents. Not even a single respectable person is available in this ruling party. When Home Ninister himself is facing fraud charges what kind of justice we can expect from home department. I am sure what these fundamentalists and their patrons (state government) are sowing today have to reap tomorrow. Please Mangaloreans wake up and please think about the future of your next generation. These goons are acting as saints but indulged in all kinds of anti social activities to spoil our land and nation. Better to hang them immediately. Why Police Dept is so silent about these incidents. Honestly I think by chance if we bring this BJP/KJP parties to power next time, we have to leave not only Mangalore but Kar Nnataka State itself. This is one of the worst act of ediots (troble creating fundamentalists only and not all)

What protestor say is not 100% true, the present generation reporting is also biased, many political parties use them to get vote banks, defiantly its not correct to beat the journalist same time journalist should give un biased news and should not crumble under corporate and politicians. Did you hear any time people beating journalist 10 years ago? No then why now think also

Attack on Reporter means attack on the fundamental rights. These people have no respect for the constitution. They draft their own rules and talk their own version of Hindustan. The police should surrender to the president of India for bring army rule so that the political pressure can be controlled. A couple of weeks ago a news channel in Mangalore was reporting a crime where a video footage showed an accused calling the ‘Doctor’ while getting arrested. If the doctors call the SP and DC and control a police arrest then what more we can expect from police?

Just out of curiosity sake Googled to find the meaning of 'Taliban'. In Pushtu it means means 'seekers' of knowledge or 'students'.So why bring disrepute to the fraternity of 'Taliban'without even knowing what it means? If Terrorists embrace the 'word' is it Taliban's fault? What 'Indian Taliban' and all that non-sense?
