Mangalore, Feb 8: "Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has been following Mahathma Gandhi’s concept of Ramarajya. SKDRDP is the only institution which has helped people in the society to be enriched with culture, morality and discipline," said Nalin Kumar Kateel.

He was addressing at the decennial celebrations and 'Kendra Okkuta Pada Grahana' programme organized by Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project’s 'Pragati Bandhu' self-help groups of Mangalore taluk. The programme was held at Kadri Manjusha convention hall.

Kateel recited a stanza from a Hindi poem, "Chandan hai iss desha ki Mati, Tapobhoomi Har Gram Hai, Har Bala Devi Ki Pratima, Bacha Bacha Ram Hai," and said with the efforts of SKDRDP every taluk in the district can be termed as ‘Tapobhoomi’ and all men and women as ‘Ram’ and ‘Devi’ respectively.

"SKDRDP has been doing the work expected of a government for the benefit of the people. Hence, we should congratulate the efforts of SKDRDP," he stated.

"SKDRDP schemes have brought changes in the living standards of working class from APL to BPL; this is a drastic change in society, and we should appreciate the efforts of the institutions, some of which are under the guidance of Dr D Veerendra Heggade," he said.

In his presidential address, Dr D Veerendra Heggade said, "We should complete our work with effort and should not desire the fruit of labour; if our work is perfect it will definitely be rewarded.

"SKDRDP has taught discipline, financial stability, management, organizing capacity and cooperation to its members. Discipline within an individual will bring him success. Paying of weekly installment is easier to the members of self-groups. All projects and schemes of the government and NGOs are for the people’s betterment, but they should also understand the necessity and must utilize them appropriately. People who do so are efficient and intelligent," he said.

Deputy commissioner N Prakash lauded the achievements of Heggade and said, "He is a great scholar and we are the students; we need to retain the knowledge he provides.”

Ganghadar Kaikamba and Shanthi Tharanath opined their views on the benefits of self-help groups.

L H Manjunath, director of SKDRDP said, "Insurance is essential to everyone, so all members of the self-help groups should obtain it. SKDRDP provides this facility at an affordable cost.”
