Udupi: Rickshaw hits median - passenger loses life

Udupi, Feb 11: After an auto rickshaw hit the divider accidentally, the vehicle toppled. A passenger lost his life in this accident, which occurred near Bannanje Lord Mahalingeshwara temple. The accident occurred on Sunday February 10 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Lakshman (40), a resident of  Kodavoor Laxminagar near here. Ravichandra from Kappettu, who was driving the auto rickshaw, and Shyam, brother of the deceased, suffered injuries. The vehicle also got mangled in the accident.

It is learnt that Shyam, along with his brother, Lakshman, had been to MGM College ground to watch a cricket match being played there. The duo was going to Ambalpady here as they had some work there, when the tragedy struck.

Although the injured were immediately taken to the district government hospital at Ajjarkad here, it is learnt they were not attended to immediately. Lakshman, who had suffered deep gash on his head, had breathed his last by then. The injured were thereafter moved by the policemen to Manipal hospital for treatment, as a result of which their lives were saved.

A case in this regard stands registered in the town police station here, relating to the above accident.
