Bantwal: Youth drowns in River Netravati

Bantwal, Feb 11: In a tragic incident that occurred near Lord Shanmukha Subahmanya temple of Shambhoor village in the taluk on Sunday February 10, Vasant (23), son of the late Jayant Saphalya from Karbettu in Narikombu village, lost his life.

Vasant, who was a painter by profession, had visited the home of his brother-in-law in Parel on Saturday. He was returning to his home along with brother-in-law, Sachin, and friend-cum-neighbor, Rajesh, on Sunday afternoon. On the way, the three entered River Netravati to take bath. Vasant, who was standing on a rock, slipped and drowned in the river.

With the help of the locals, Vasant’s body was recovered and taken to the government hospital here. A case was registered in the police station here.

Vasant, whose elder sister, Yashoda, is a panchayat member in Narikombu, was unmarried. A number of people including former MLA, Padmanabh Kottary, taluk panchayat vice president, Anand Shambhoor, zilla panchayat member, Chandraprakash Shetty, and former zilla panchayat president, Mamata Gatti, visited the bereaved family and pacified the family members
