Kerala centre for budget studies opens

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 17 (IANS): Vice President Hamid Ansari Sunday inaugurated the K.M. Mani Centre for Budget Studies of Cochin University of Science and Technology at the old Kerala assembly hall here.

"It is befitting that the centre has been named after K.M. Mani, a distinguished public servant and political leader who created history by presenting 10 budgets as finance minister of Kerala," Ansari said.

Mani, 80, heads the Kerala Congress (Mani) and has been a legislator in the Kerala assembly since 1967 without ever losing an election.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the centre was inaugurated at a time when Mani is set to present his 11th state budget.

"His budgets have always had a human face and a development perspective," Chandy said.
