Karkala, Feb 19: It was a special moment for the residents of Vanjar in Nadpal here, as after years and years of wait, their dream of getting a bridge saw hopes of realization.

Incidentally, no minister has ever visited this place before, but on Monday February 18, district incharge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary not only visited the village but also laid the foundation for the long-awaited bridge.

The bridge will connect residents of Vanjar and Megadde villages of Naxal-hit Nadpal.

"After discussions with the deputy commissioner, orders will be issued to use the Naxal rehabilitation package to repair the roads of this region. An amount of Rs 2 lac will be given to develop Megadde Mukyaprana Temple,” said Poojary.

"The bridge will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Rs 50 lac has been sanctioned to the zilla panchayat engineering division. The work will be started immediately after the tender is issued. In the month of May, work will be completed and opened to traffic,” said Tingale Vikramadithya Hegde, chairman, Coastal Development Authority.

MLA Gopal Bhandary said the road to Kodlu Thirtha Falls should be developed by the tourism department, resolving the problems of the forest department.

Former MLA Sunil Kumar, ZP member Manjunath Poojary, Taluk panchayat member Chandrashekar Shetty, coastal development authority secretary M Raviraj Narayan, Naadpal gram panchayat president Laksmi Dayananda , and vice-president Jagadish Herala were present on this occasion.

This bridge was sanctioned when Mr.Veerappa Moily was the CM.It was allotted in the budget at that time but the BJP did not take it up. They have woken up now because of the election. Please check under RTI and you would know the truth.

If someone is trying to do some good work to the society, encourage the cause rather than criticizing irrespective of which party he or she belongs. The ultimate goal should be development of the area / region. Do not discourage someone who is trying to do something good. Instead of pin pointing each other give some good suggestions for the betterment of the society and people.

When the BJP could shell out Rs. 10 crores per MLA during 'Operation Kamala' they could not construct a bridge for 2.5 crores? That amount was just pocket money for Yeddy and Reddy but they never did it. Now when election is getting closer they are trying to get credit.

Good work Shri.K.S.Poojary! Infrastructure development is our thrust area.
Irrespective of party affiliations, We'll appreciate all politicians who genuinely work for welfare of the people.
We may have cautious mindset, but NOT BLOCKED mind set, in order to accommodate wider choice!
Point of caution, it is season of inaugurations, but time will surely reveal the PROCESS of work!

Why be sarcastic and talk about Italy ? Our ( Karnataka ) Iron Ore was worth thousands of Crore Rupees was robbed and exported by our own BJP Ministers. If it is so bad at the State level, then why talk at the Central level ? At our Mangalore level, to get a site clearence in MUDA one has to pay in Lakhs to the MUDA members. If not, it will not be approved. This is the state of affairs.

Ms Diana Lobo, once picnicers go there the ecology will change with thrash & plastic. It is better to be seen in pictures only. Our public is senseless when it comes to cleanliness and the environment. We take everything for granted. This area ( as seen in the pictures ) looks very sensitive.

The Ullal railway bridge was constructed by the British in 1908.The old Panemangalore bridge was constructed in 1910. We are now trying to build bridges with 90% sand and 10% cement, to last a few months.

This seems a beautiful picnic spot. South Kanara is so beautiful with lush green forests and countryside. How does one get there ? Is the area infested with naxals as seen in the pics ? Is it safe to go there with the family at a weekend ?

Highly impossible to finish in the month of MAY(be)! The work could have done earlier from various YOJANA from Centre and more importantly from NAXAL PACKAGE. Bureaucratic bottleneck is the main reason which hinders developmental work from CENTRAL GOVT (matching grants STATE/CENTRE 50/50%)Last year's Karnataka Budget only 45% are spent and rest spending with in 75 days(financial YEAR)highly impossible so that the amount which kept aside LAST YEAR will go back state treasury to accumulate new year's budget!!!Any way good work of the state Govt and appreciated.

Thanks to Mr Poojary for having considering our decades long voice. Unfortunately this has not fallen on deaf ears of our congress people. It is the time to introspect for congress people. I request all people of Karkala to vote for BJP in next election. The sitting mla is incapable.
