Mangalore: 'Sipoy Saant' religious play to be staged on Mar 24

Mangalore, Feb 20: The muhurat of the religious Konkani play 'Sipoy Saant' was held at Parish Hall, St Sebastian Church here on February 20.

The play will be staged at St Agnes open ground on March 24 at 6 pm.

Parish priest of Bendore Fr Antony Serrao blessed the gathering.

The play was inaugurated by Rohan Monteiro and Fr Antony Serrao by lighting the lamp. Author of 'Sipoy Saant' Claude D'Souza then handed over the script to the director of the play Adolphus Cutinha (Dolla).

Addressing the gathering Adolphus said that the same play was presented 25 years ago and performed in 3 stages. "This time it will be performed in 7 stages with 50 artistes. I am sure the play will be a hit," he said, urging all the artistes and the organizers to co-operate and make this programme a grand success.

Fr Antony Serrao said that the main aim in organizing the play was to bring back the memories of Saint Sebastian and his life. "The play will boost the spirit of the parishioners and strengthen their faith," he added.

Proprietor of Rohan Corporation, Rohan Monteiro said, " The Konkani play 'Sipoy Saant ' will enlighten the faithful and will also bring back the old memories of Saint Sebastian and fill them with new spirit." Monteiro assured his wholehearted support towards this good cause.

Vice-president, parish pastoral council Ronald Valder proposed the vote of thanks. Leslie Rego welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.

    Good to see some comments and clamour in favour of religious plays like 'Sipoy Santh'. Otherwise almost all are busy purchasing 'Popoy at Saanth'every Saturday!

    The initiative taken by Leslie & Claude is really appreciable.I am with them & will do my best to support their noble cause so that the younger generation may inspire the faith St. Sebastian had during that time.May this play be a great success.May God bless all those who take part in it,

    This play will definitely bring back the memories of our patron of the parish and will be an eye opener for the younger generation of the parish. As our parish is in its centenary year this play is need of the hour. We wish the organizers, writer, director actors and all those who contribute their efforts in one way or the other for the success of this play. Regret we are not there to take part in this play as we are away in Muscat. However we assure our prayers.
