Mangalore: Raid on Dubai Market - 8 arrested for selling fake mobile phones

Mangalore, Feb 23: Eight persons have been arrested for selling fake Samsung mobile phones at Dubai Market located in Central Market area, following the police raid on the premises on Friday February 22.

The names of the arrested have not yet been divulged.

On Friday, the Bunder police led by ACP Kavita raided eight shops in Dubai market.

Contrary to intial reports that claimed confiscation of 3000 mobile phones, the Bunder police confirmed to daijiworld that they seized 151 fake phones, 40 fake Samsung batteries, 350 Samsung stickers, 1600 pouches, and 40 adaptors.

The total value of the seized items is said to be around Rs 5 lac.

Fake phones in the name of Samsung, that are valued at a market price of over Rs 20,000, were being sold with China-made stickers and parts for Rs 2000, said a police source. 

The complaint was filed by representative of Samsung company Stephen Raj.

North police station inspector Manjunath Shetty and other police officials were part of the operation.

A case has been registered in the Bunder police station.

    Please get your facts right before you grow bold on your perceptions void of information. Samsung today is one of the largest spender (No.1) on R&D far ahead of Intel in the world. Samsung is the biggest filer of US patents ahead of any other technology company in the US continuously for the 5th year in the running. Samsung manufactures every little thing in the galaxy phones it sells and owns IP for it. Apple on the other hand sources everything except the software. Remember, until Samsung posed real threat, Apple's A5 processor, Memory and display unit was primarily manufactured by Samsung. Apple is one greedy company with utmost disregard for human rights. All the patent related wars that you might have superficially browsed are a propaganda by Apple. It lost everywhere else except in US. I am sure that is no coincidence. In UK, Apple paid fine for not complying with Judge's verdict that Apple publish advertisements clearly stating that Samsung did not copy. Want more information ask the employees of foxconn where even kids are working for peanuts so that Apple makes huge profit. Apple is following Research in Motion's blackberry to oblivion. If you want any advanced indication of that, watch the share prices of Apple and ask the investors why so?

    "DUBAI MARKET"!!! Pls remove the name DUBAI from the board...First of all DUBAI is one of the seven emirates or Pearls of U.A.E. Why simply spoiling the name of the famous U.A.E city named Dubai??? They should have changed the name to "CHINA MARKET" (The house of FAKE products...) and Plsss stop buying Fake products like WATCHES, DVDs, Electronic items... Buy Genuine products from branded shops like Certified SAMSUNG, SONY, HP shops etc...

    These are not fake phones but phones made in China. Like this wrist watches are sold on the street near Lady Goshan Hospital. These watches too are made in China. Indian big watch brand AJANTA uses Chinese electronic movements. So are they fake too ?

    Though fake these phones are sold cheaper and the customers are aware of it. So there is no question of cheating the customers. Whereas in case of wine shops, the "second maal" also called "second sales" is sold on par with the original brand, where the customers are deceived. So the police first need to look into the activities such wine dealers and bar owners. I hope the police are not aware of it.

    Everybody living in Mangalore know that electronic goods sold in Dubai Market are duplicate or pirated. People go there to buy cheap goods in spite of knowing the fact that it doesn't last long. Interestingly, all these shops are owned by the people from our Famous Kasargod.

    This is indeed a good move. A lot of such products have jacked up specifications, for eg. on the box of the phone it might be mentioned that its 8 MP resolution camera with 16GB memory but in reality it would be just a VGA camera with 2 GB memory. Many consumers are unaware of this.
    This is criminal and has to stop.

    All the Branded phones are made in China, including their chargers, in their own or third party manufacturers.
    The same manufacturers for whom its just like Home Industry market the same models with slightly changed names with very low price.
    They don't carry any warranty or are not reliable if any want to buy them. Those who take a risk are satisfied to flaunt their gadgets, if they last 1 year as it pays for its price within that period.
    Choice is ours, the police can only verify whether all the duties or taxes are paid, otherwise they might fail in the courts as they carry different names, but they carry branded phones pictures which is a violation of patent.
