Mangalore, Feb 24: The people in the city and outskirts woke up to thick fog on Sunday February 24.

Areas like Jeppinamogeru, Thokkottu and surrounding areas, all the way up to Yekkur were covered in thick blanket of fog.

The visibility was low, causing some incovenience to early morning commuters.

The fog lasted until around 7.30 am. As the morning progressed, the fog was replaced by bright sunshine.

On Saturday February 23 too, fog enveloped several areas. Due to poor visibility, domestic and international flights were delayed or diverted to Kochi and Calicut airports. The Jet Airways flight from Dubai was diverted to Kochi, resulting in a four-hour delay in landing at Mangalore Airport.

The Air India Express flight from Dubai was also diverted to Calicut airport. It landed in Mangalore at around noon.

Drive very slowly when there is fog, no hurry. If any vehicle goes fast or with overspeed, please inform the police and give veh. Reg.# and name of bus. Such weather is very very dangerous. All should start for work half an hour early my dear friends.

Foggy weather is closely associated with deteriorating air quality, which may be an early indication of reduction in green cover, concretisation, and increasing emissions from factories and motor vehicles!!

The airindia express yesterday morning did not land at Bajpe airport and was diverted to Calicut. The flight did not take off from Calicut easily. the passengers were asked leave the airport wtihout letting know when they will be flown back to Mangalore. There was lot of commotion at the Calicut airport and finally when the passengers became aggressive did the flight take off. Why do the air india people treat their passengers in this manner. Isnt it duty to take the passenger and they are bound to do so to them in the final destiantion for which the passengers have paid for. How we can make them understand the trauma the passengers are going through when a 3 hours flight becomes a 9 hours flight. when will they come to their senses.

Mr. Abdul Khadar, I think it might have been Hail stones and not snowfall. Its hard as Ice block and if it is snow then it would be similar to frost in the refrigerator
