Mangalore: Duo of Gavin-Vaishnavi, Silver Steppers qualify for Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya

Mangalore, Feb 24: Silver Steppers and the duo of Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran won the first place in the Mangalore auditions of Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya, the first all-India Konkani dance contest, held at Kalaangann here on Sunday, February 24.
The event is being organized by Mandd Sobhann along with three other Konkani organisations. The earlier auditions were held at Bangalore, Udupi, Mumbai, Kasargod, Honnavar, Goa and the semi-finals and finals will be held in the month of May in Mangalore.
Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann welcomed the gathering, briefed the rules and regulations of the competition and introduced the judges. Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann offered bouquets to the judges - Sanjay Kumar, Bangalore, Avil D'Cruz and Carol D'Souza. Melvyn Rodrigues, Konkani poet and director, operations, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd was the guest of honour and declared the Mangalore auditions open.
In the duet category Flevin Deepak Pinto and Glen Vivian Lasrado, Canon S Lobo and Jack, Risha D'Souza and Mackline Rodrigues, Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran, Maria Joyce D'Souza and Sunil Anthony Siddi, Vivette Shirley Lasrado and Preema Daphney and Vinola Pereira and Mavis Pinto participated.
Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran bagged the first place securing 230 marks out of the total 300. Runners-up were Maria Joyce D'Souza and Sunil Anthony Siddi. They got 213 marks.
In the group category Ranipura Team, SDM College of Business Management, Silver Steppers, Golden Sparklers and Wanted Boys from Puttur participated.
The winners were Silver Steppers (240 out of 300) and the runners-up were SDM College of Businees Management (233 out of 300).
Silver Steppers members were Gavin Rodrigues, Leonel Sequeira, Siddarth Devanand, Nahid, Hazel Coutinho, Vaishnavi Pavithran, Simona Fernandes and Anushree V N.
SDM College of Business Management group members were Chaitanya, Priyanka, Karishma, Dhanya, Oralia, Gautami, Arundhati, Rahul, Adish and Prajwal.
With this, the audition round of the competition drew to a close.
