Delhi records highest cash transfer on single day


New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): A total of Rs.8 crore food subsidy was transferred to the bank accounts of 13,640 new beneficiaries of tne Delhi government's direct cash transfer scheme through Aadhaar cards Wednesday, a record transfer in a single day, the government has claimed.

"The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has intimated that Delhi government has transferred today (Wednesday) an amount of Rs.8 crore through the Aadhaar based direct cash transfer in the bank accounts of 13,640 new beneficiaries," said a statement from the Delhi Chief Minister's Office.

Rs.6,000 was released to each of the beneficiary for the last 10 months.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi had launched 'Dilli Annashree Yojana' by transferring Rs.4,800 as cash benefit of eight months in the bank accounts of the beneficiary at a function organised at Thyagaraj Stadium.

The scheme was made effective from April 2012.

The Delhi government had launched four centrally-sponsored schemes through Aadhaar enabled direct cash transfer scheme in two of its districts Jan 1, when the scheme took off in 20 districts of the country.
