Mangalore, Feb 28: The district BJP unit on Thursday February 28 launched its campaign for the upcoming local body polls with a rally from the party office at PVS to Town Hall. A large number of BJP activists and supporters were part of the fanfare.

Addressing after inaugurating the campaign at Town Hall, former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said the upcoming election will determine the future.

"Around 30% of the people live in urban areas here and people are seen attaining growth. In this direction, the BJP has given more importance to urban development and has allotted huge funds for roads, cleanliness, drinking water and others in the past 5 years," said the former CM.

"There is a close connection between urban development and BJP. The BJP has worked towards development whenever it got a chance," he said. Citing the example of the late Dr V S Acharya, he said Dr Acharya set an example for the whole state with his able administration in Udupi.

"On the whole, the BJP has given a new dimension to administration," DVS added.

"The BJP government has always worked in the interest of the people. We are happy to say that it was through our initiative that manual scavenging was stopped in the city. During our rule in the city for the past 5 years, the party has undertaken development works worth Rs 525 crore, whereas, when Congress was in power they were able to get only Rs 430 crore for the city in their 25 years of rule. This shows that our party is the best when it comes to development of the city," he said.

"The Karnataka government has spent Rs 1,560 crore on basic facilities like drinking water in 58 places in the state. It has also identified 207 places in the state for waste management. No other party has ever submitted a budget of over Rs 1 lac crore like we did," he said.

Referring to the recent resignation storm that hit BJP, he asserted that the government would face no problems even if several ministers quit.

"For all our development plans to yield more fruit, we should be back in power and going by the voters' response, I am sure this time we will win more than 50% of the seats in the upcoming urban local body election," he added.

On the occasion, deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat released the election manifesto of the party.

Monappa Bhandary, Srikar Prabhu, district south president, Sanjeeva Matandar, chief secretary, Santhosh Kumar Boliyar, former MLA Jayaram Shetty, former mayors Ganesh Hosabettu, Rajani Dugganna and Shankar Bhat, MUDA president S Ramesh, BJP youth leader Kishore Rai, district minority morcha vice-president Franklin Monteiro among others were present.

Some of the points listed in the BJP manifesto are:

- Reforms in municipal administration by setting up ward committees and taking public opinions in development.
- Online forum and helpline numbers for grievance redressal.
- Bringing in transparency in day-to-day administrative affairs through computerization.
- Drinking water facility in all areas and measures to conserve water.
- Construction of ring roads around all major cities and towns and construction of flyovers and underpasses to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- In city limits, prominence will be given to underground and overbridge railway crossing.
- Prapaid auto and taxi centers in prime locations.
- Bus rapid transport (BRT) corridor project in all the city corporations along the lines of one being implemented in Hubli-Dharwad.
- Promoting use of CLF and LED lamps, developing a garden of medicinal plants in all corporation limits and overall development of existing parks.
- Door-to-door collection of waste on a daily basis.

Yes - that is because Congress is a non-interfering party - hence BJP taking peaceful procession.
Skirmishes break out when BJP and BJP Chamchas break into congress processions to put the blame on congress for un-ruly behaviour.
Every one knows about this, including you.
You are a bit nervous about the thought of BJP being wiped out of Karnataka. I can understand your mood, fears etc.
Better jump the boat right this moment!!!! (take a helping hand from congressman as you jump the boat, otherwise you may fall in between the boats!!!)

KJP, JDS will also take some share of their votes.

    Results :

    1. Congress
    2. JDS
    3. KJP

Vincy, Don't think like that. In fact Siddu may join JDS in 3 months (MARALI GOODIGE or MARALI MANEGE).

Look at the discipline and unity showed by BJP. This makes us FRONT RUNNER.

If it was congress campaign, two fights would have happened already.
