Mangalore, Mar 4: "Congress put in Rs 500 crore for development of the city in the past 25 years, while the BJP has put in Rs 500 crore in just 5 years," said Krishna Palemar, former minister and MLA, Mangalore north constituency.

Addressing a press meet at Deepa Comforts here on Monday March 4 at 7:30 pm, he said that BJP has brought about higher rate of development than any other party that has ruled so far. "Despite BJP having done so many development works, other parties have always been pointing out and misleading people by talking bad and unwanted things about the party," he lamented.

"Other parties have spread rumours that the BJP has increased water tariff, but the tariff was hiked in 2005 when the Congress was in rule. At that time, the tariff was Rs 100 per month, but after BJP came to power, it was decreased to Rs 65, which cheapest in the whole state," he said.

"The Congress has mentioned in its manifesto that it would construct footpaths and drainage for the concreted roads. But when we have concreted the city roads, we even know to construct footpaths and drainage as well, but due to some technical issues, the project was stopped. However, it is under tender process and soon it will be done," he said.

Referring to Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), Palemar said that in the earlier CDP regulations, when the Congress was in rule, it was difficult for a person to legally build a house, but as the officials were not too strict over the issue, people used to build houses in small plots.

"After the BJP came to power, CDP was modified so that an individual could build a house and obtain licence legally. As per earlier rules and regulations, residential layouts in Mannagudda, Gandhinagar and a few other places were the only legal sites, rest all were illegal. The new 'Akrama Sakrama' programme also strives to legalize all the illegal layouts," he explained.

He further urged the people to support all their 60 candidates who are in the list, so as to help the party come to power and serve the public better and keep them secure.

Leaders namely Shankar Bhat, Ramesh Kumar, Sharath Chandra Shetty, Monappa Bhandary and others were present.

From past 5 years, the water in my area has been cut out in Mangalore. The roads are no longer tarred but we have mud roads (back to ancient civilization). It was better before you guys came into power, we had tarred lanes and good water supply.

Our own people need business by hook or crook. When Congress comes to power they can easily spindle the funds the way they want but when BJP comes to power they can’t siphon the funds at their will
