Sadananda Gowda emerges front-runner for state BJP chief post

Bangalore, Mar 9 (PTI) : With Assembly elections just round the corner in Karnataka, the central BJP held consultations with key leaders here today to pick a new state unit President, a not-so-smooth affair.

Senior party leader Arun Jaitley and the in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, Dharmendra Pradhan, presided a meeting of the party's state core committee, where factionalism was in full play.
It was attended among others by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Deputy Chief Ministers K S Eshwarappa and R Ashoka and former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, besides senior party leader H N Ananth Kumar.

Eshwarappa announced his resignation as state unit President on March seven, paving the way for a new party head.

According to party sources, Sadananda Gowda, who was the state unit president when BJP installed its first ever government in the South in 2008, may have emerged as the front-runner for the post.

The sources said Gowda has the backing of the party's central leadership. The party had sought to put him in the saddle last year, to replace Eshwarappa, but it was stoutly opposed by heavyweight B S Yeddyurappa before he quit BJP and floated a regional outfit Karnataka Janatha Paksha.

Gowda comes from the dominant Vokkaliga community and it's considered a huge plus. He also comes from coastal Karnataka, a BJP stronghold though there is said to be discontent among a section of the party's rank and file in recent years.

There is no doubt that among the present aspirants Sadanada Gowda is the best choice for the party president post.Since Jagdish shettar is projected CM candidate Vokkaliga candidate will help in representing that community. He is no doubt clean and able administrator which he proved during his short stint as CM.Then of course he will be able to take everyone along smoothly. He is certain to bring BJP to power again in spite of the damage caused by Eddyurappa to the party by his acts of corruption and nepotism.

There may have been corruption in Defense Ministry, but as long as Shri. A.K. Anthony doesn't take any benefit, he is CLEAN!
In good times it is easy to remain clean and maintain cleanliness. But in present dirty political scenario ?
Only way to ward of evil is don't except anything, and set an example and make corrupt ashamed. Such leaders not just to be called clean but SAINTS OR SAGES!

While observing his political credentials he is a gentleman- very capable leader- peacemaker- very charismatic personality -educated with character and corruption free. I am not associated with BJP or any political party in India but having such a person like Mr. Sadananda Gowda at the helm of any party is rare, besides a unique asset and privilege. Hearty congrtulations.

Shenoymam,do you still feel that the word "non corrupt" has any meaning in politics/political persons irresopective party affiliations?
Can you tell one single name in BJP/Congress/JDS who is coming under the criteria of the so called word "non corrupt".
There is a need to look at the subject presently, 'more corrupt and less corrupt'

You are partially true in your opinion.I didnt mention AB Vajpayees name because he is not active in politics now and he will never come to politics henceforth.I have high regards for AK Anthony but after hearing the scams in his ministry I am of the opinion that though he is a clean person, used by unscrupulous elements in the government in mega scams benifitting the masters ultimately. His clean tag may fade anytime.I has great sypathies for AK Antony sir.Another person I always regard as great patriot and non corrupt is Sri George Fernandes who is also not in active politics. He is a great Parliamentarian and fearless leader country has seen in post independent India.

How can person who was'nt able to help a contestant win Lok sabha seat in udupi be made head of state? His contribution to state development has been ZERO! All those people dreaming of BJP doing well in State elections in 2013 must realize that BJP has been a TOTAL FAILURE when it came to managing the state.

Whoever takes BJP state Party Chief in Karnataka, that could be to preside over loosing ruling tag!I tell you what having power in hand there are four powerful groups and lobbies for party chief which indicates that other three groups are enough to put road block to DVS's path of success. The condition is not conducive in favor of BJP on one hand,on the other, and more importantly ant- incumbency factor is very high.Even for some BJP voters,Congress is de facto choice!Corruptions, powerful lobbies for party CEO,dissents, resignations,BSY facts and A.Kumar(A.K tried to grab all switches with him with the active help of R.Ashok,Vakkaliga leader)are main points of reckoning to DVS.In fact DVS choice is a inevitable choice to balance VOKKALIGA-LINGAYATH COMBINE WHICH COULD BE DECIDED EARLIER.These squabbling between the groups are just to fool workers and voters beside oppn parties.

    Ismail,

Every where difference will be there. In every family differences in opinion are common. But one thing I like in BJP party is, they fight together when it comes to PARTY/ELECTION etc. But differences in congress is such that it will benefit opposition party. Some dissatisfied groups in congress works against their own party.
