Congress to go it alone in Karnataka

New Delhi, Mar 10 (IANS): The Congress will fight the forthcoming assembly polls in Karnataka on its own, a senior party leader said Sunday.

Party general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, who is incharge of Karnataka, told IANS over phone that the party was in the process of finalizing its candidates for the assembly polls expected to take place in May.

Asked if the Congress will have any alliance for the assembly polls, he answered in the negative.

Mistry said the party's preparations were proceeding well and expressed confidence of coming to power in the southern state where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power since 2008.

"We will win the polls... Hundred percent," he said.

He said the party will raise local issues during the elections and "expose the misgovernance" of the BJP government.

To a question about projecting a chief ministerial candidate in Karnataka, Mistry said that it was not the practice in Congress.

Party sources said several Congress leaders from the state were desirous of becoming the next chief minister amid speculation that party's fortunes had brightened following troubles faced by the BJP following rebellion of former chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa.

The term of the Karnataka assembly will come to an end June 3 this year.

Parties will know the urban mind Monday

Ahead of the Karnataka assembly polls in May, political parties, particularly the ruling BJP and main challenger Congress, will know on Monday their hold on the state's urban voters as results of the urban local bodies poll will be out.

Around 70 percent of 8.5 millon voters out of total electorate of more than 40 million had voted Thursday to elect 207 urban local bodies. Though voting was scheduled for 208 local bodies, polling did not take place in one because of boycott by the people demanding various facilities for the area, according to the state election commission.

A good showing in the poll is of particular importance to the Bharatiya Janata Party to boost its morale to face the assembly elections as the party's image stands battered by corruption scandals and dissidence.

While no scandal has broken out after Jagadish Shettar became the BJP's third chief minister in over four years last July, there is no end to disunity in the state unit.

This is the first major election the party faced after coming to power in the state for the first time in May 2008.

In the last urban local bodies poll held in 2007, the Congress was the biggest winner followed by the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) with the BJP taking the third spot.

Shettar, who has been declared by the BJP as its chief ministerial candidate for the assembly polls, is confident of his party winning a majority of the over 4,800 seats for which balloting took place Thursday.

The Congress claims it will win around 60 percent of the seats while the JD-S says it will take the first place.

The Congress has fielded the highest number of candidates - 4,492, followed by the BJP (3,954) and JD-S (3,651).

Two new outfits - the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) and BSR (Badavara Shramikara Mattu Raithara or poor, workers and farmers) Congress - both floated by former BJP men, are also in the fray.

The KJP, headed by former BJP chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, has fielded 1,966 candidates and the BSR Congress, floated by former BJP minister B. Sriramulu 1,496.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist is contesting 133 seats.

The rest are independents.

It is actually the Congress that made way for the JDS and BJP misrule by having weak and corrupt Ministers. Let the Congress not be fooled by this verdict and upright candidates without any blemish and nil criminal record. Remember that the next Election will be dominated by the youth and young generation who will not tolerate any nonsense .This is really the last chance for the Congress to redeem itself in the eyes of the people who cannot be fooled time and again.
    Yes,
"You can fool some of the mutts some of the time, but you cannot fool all the mutts all of the time".

Learn from the mistakes of the Past and do not repeat the same mistakes again. Either rule clean or be prepared to be dumped into the Deep Sea by the voters who are indeed smart.

Be it Congress or BJP or for that matter any party in India (except Aam Admi Party), all are hipocrites. Blaming each other. But in the background they are friends. This is because they know that their cupboards are filled with skeletons. Both the parties, for the sake of gaining power, ready to sell India and kill the poor. Both parties are good in rhetoric. That is all. As of now, if any Indian can count on, it is Aam Admi Party.

It is Congress Govt which banned RSS/SIMI some years back. Sharath, there is a written constitution, democracy, courts, checks and balances in Indian democratic parliamentary system.(extremist org)could not be banned altogether unless one should prove it that it is anti-national/anti- society and even any Govt can't ban SIMI/other so called custodian of Indian cultural orgs etc In available resources one should choose what is good or not good.Even if Yeddy re-joins BJP nothing will happen and people of Karnataka always taught a lesson to all major political parties when they took people taken for granted.Congress is PAN INDIAN PARTY having all communities in the board which gave uninterrupted state and central govt across India.Yes, it never aligned with communal BJP @ any given national/state issues which was said to be divisive that is what I mean it(even RSS's arch rival CPIM joined once up on a time in CENTRE)!

Now this makes sense...dint you realise this when shout slogans Ban BD, BAN SRS, But Bhatt inside, put muthalik inside, why do you guys erase this written constitution when ever you want. Your party's sickular attitude is Linking RSS to each and everythign whenever it is cought n its pant down, whoever protests against its corruption, link him to RSS, whoever questions its failed policy's, link him to RSS, if any person is caught doing or proved doing any anti-state activity & if he does not belong to minority then sutomatically link him to RSS coz his Uncle was once follower of RSS.Just because some one time RSS follower for his own resons commits some crime or involve in antistate activity, equate RSS to other terrorist agencies like LET or JEM or SIMI and take Shabashgiri from accors the border and the militants.
If even after so much evidences if they should not ban SIMI or IM, then what do you suggest, give them Bharat Ratna Status ?
The Govt was in center, What were they doing sleeping? until when the karsevaks climbed thr dome of Babri Masjid ? Where was your state & centers intelligence then ?? atleast Narendra Modi was not existant in politics to put the intelligence behind him. If they wanted they could have stoped the razing down of the mosque, they had the power in state & in center. Where they eating pakodas in the winter december then ?. No they purposely wanted this to happen so that they can fool you guys later for coming generations.
Placing Muslim candidates in muslim dominated area & christian candidates in christain dominated area is not secular politics. Its Vote bank politics to win your hearts. Thats all.

The election result of local bodies which was held three days back once again spur political activities in full swing. We are in election mood so politicians.Congress never compromised it's secular values with Communal forces.A tactical understanding with like minded parties possible other than that Congress in Karnataka had gone alone so far.The anti incumbency factor is very severe that BJP waiting Local body election result to name it's party chief in Karnataka amid serious divisions in the party.A political change in Karnataka is inevitable and it is matter of time. Thanks to BJp for it's follies in every field(govt/Political affairs). If Urabn results endorses BJP's standing then I think ISH will continue as President BJP state unit if not DVS will likely to take over.BUT,the mood of the Karnataka voters may not reversible....

Will they do it???. I dont think so, coz if they did then they dont have a issue to divide and rule people at all. Aint your congress at the mercy of shiv sena in Maharastra even though sitting in Delhi they give statement aganst the sena ?. Is it the sickular credentials you are talking about ?. Why dint the congress whcih proposes communal harmony dint take any action on Togadia when he gave a alleged Hate speech in your congress ruled State ?.
