Kasargod, Mar 10: Three persons including father and son were killed in a tragic accident between a tanker and scooter on Manjeshwar-Kunjathur highway here on Sunday March 10.

The deceased have been identified as Kunjathur Sannadka resident Abubakar (50), his son Samad (13) and Ashrad Moulvi (45), a teacher in a Madrasa at Hosangady.

Abubukar's younger son Sabit (8) has been hospitalized in Mangalore with serious injuries.

The four were returning by scooter from Udyavar mosque near Talapady. When they reached Kunjathur junction, a gas tanker plying from Talapady to Kasargod town rammed into them.

While Abubakar was killed on the spot, Ashraf and Samad passed away on the way to hospital.

Samad was a standard 8 student of Sahadiya school here.

The tanker driver escaped the accident unhurt.

Abubakar, who had three children, was from a poor family and used to earn a livelihood by selling groundnuts. Now the family is in dire straits with two deaths and another son battling for life in the hospital.

Traffic was stalled for about two hours due to the accident.

Manjeshwar police have registered a case.

Cases against 50 persons

Angered by the accident, the locals got into an argument with senior police officials Shaji and Balachandran. A scuffle broke out, and the locals attacked the policemen. Cases were registered against as many as 50 people in this regard.

If you see the photos of the accident, the tanker is in correct side and more over to that 4 people are riding a small scooty with flat tyre. i don't understand why we blame every time bigger vehicle for the accident. i feel sad for the poor small boy, he lost his life for no reason.

May their souls rest in peace and may the injured have a speedy recovery. I do not know how the traffic department allow four people in a motor bike. The scene of the accident is horrible with the scooter right underneath the tanker. My heartfelt condolences to to bereaved family and friends.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but were there... "FOUR" people on one scooter??? Four??

It is only when the traffic cops focus more on implementing strict traffic rules that our roads will become a little safe.. truly tragic and terrible to view... :(

I completely agree with you.. Over here in Surathkal most of the people who use two-wheelers don't even have a license!! I am not exaggerating, it is a fact.. and there is absolutely no checking of any kind whatsoever.. it is high time some rules and regulations are implemented....

really tragic incident. may their souls rest in peace. only god can console the bereaved family. on the other hand i would say that two wheelers should be careful in driving. here for me it looks tanker driver did not do any mistake. such tankers go very slow and they remain in their line. those who drive smaller vehicles should be careful.

One of the worst places with regards to poor infra and road rules!!! Riding two wheeler is a strict no-no in this part of the world!! Very high chances of getting maimed or dying!!!

What a pathetic condition of traffic at mangalore !!!!!
The drivers have taken traffic rules in their hands and they drive according to their convienience !!!!! There is literally no one to regulate smooth going of traffic !!!!!!

Whenever we start a journey we must remember two phrases:
1)" Slow down ur family is waiting for you"
2)"Speed is the journey to death"

May the souls rest in peace!
