Mangalore, Mar 10: "People have blessed Congress party in the entire Dakshina Kannada district. The party has succeeded in establishing its rule in the urban local body elections. All leaders and party workers have together worked hard for this victory and are celebrating today," said former union minister and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday March 11 after the announcement of ULB election results, he said, "Prior to the elections we had assured people that we would give good administration. We will keep our word and try to fulfil our promises."

"I was incharge of the party elections in Dakshina Kannada. We Congress leaders travelled all over the taluk along with party workers, worked enthusiastically and won the hearts of the people. Our efforts have borne fruits and enabled Congress to be the top party in the state," he said.

Lambasting the BJP over cases of communal disturbance and moral policing in coastal region over the years, Poojary said, "In coastal area Congress will uphold communal harmony and peace. BJP government has deceived 6 crore people of the state, and has allowed violence against women. Hence the people blessed Congress instead of BJP. I request everyone to support Congress in the forthcoming Assembly elections too."

"Party leaders, political analysts and media had predicted that Congress would win 35 seats - their prediction has come true as this is what Congress has won. In Mangalore south which is the constituency of sitting MLA of BJP, Congress has won 28 seats while BJP could manage only 10. Even in Mangalore north, out of the 22 seats, BJP has won only 10, and remaining all have gone to Congress," he said.

"In the forthcoming state Assembly elections we will win all 8 constituencies. We will work together and bring Congress to power in the state. We will call all the winning candidates and ask them to take an oath to serve the people; and to respond to the problems of the people and immediately resolve them," he added.

"As we had assured prior to the elections, we will not increase a single paise in property tax, self assessment tax, and water tax. By revising the CDP plan poor people will be allowed to build a house on 10 cents land, and for permission they need not go to MUDA as it can done in corporation itself. Even if the central Congress government increases the property tax, we will demand a withdrawal through KPCC and never allow the government to collect more tax," he assured.

Poojary also congratulated the media, deputy commissioner, police personnel and officers who ensured peaceful elections.

Answering queries from media persons on the party's plans, Poojary said, "We will form ward committees and study the problems of the people. We will also fight to bring the central government development funds directly to the state. Our prominence is welfare of needy people and women."

When asked to comment on former mayor Gulzar Banu's suprise loss to SDPI, he brushed aside the question saying that many prominent leaders have been defeated in elections in the past, and that "Failure is the stepping stone to success."

Ramanath Rai, Congress district president said, "Only in Sullia we could not win, rest in all places we have achieved good results. We will give administration with equal justice to all, without any discrimination. The Padayatra that we undertook had an impact on the results and help in rooting out the communal BJP. People have supported Congress as want communal harmony to prevail."

Kodijal Ibrahim, U T Khader, Ivan D’Souza, Moideen Bava, J R Lobo, P V Mohan, Denis D'Silva, Harikrishna Bantwal, T K Sudheer, Praveenchandra Alva, Rohan Monteiro, A C Bhandary, Mithun Rai, Suresh Ballal, Kripa Alva, Mamatha Gatti and many other prominent leaders were present on the occasion.

Mangalore citizens feel happy now because of the success of Congress who have come to power in Corporation elections. really the BJP has miused their powers. No doubt they have done good work to provide us roads etc minus footpaths, drains and other basic needs. Their highandedness ditched them. I think in coming elections also Congress party will win and come topower. Moral policing activities should be curbed and the people of Mangalore and Udupi be allowed to lead a peaceful life. That doesnt mean that Congress Party and its wooooorkers should not take anything for granted. They should fulfill their promises and also carry out the works as per the agenda.

We are very smart enough to understand who has ruled this country for most part of the time... in the last 65 years after independence. If we were to give credit for many things the congress govt has given to the country. Then we should also gracefull accept the fact the sad state of the country, which is in majority than the good things done in the period of around 50 yrs of their government, which many of us... infact majority of the people in country are complanining. Be it Corruption, Internal security, judiciary, law and order , Infrastructure…. etc…
Congress government has been fooling people and playing with the sentiments of the people all these years. And people are really happy with the peanuts that they throw at us. Sixty five years is a long time for the country to progress and 50 years has been a good time for the party to do a lot for this country. But they have failed….. This country is going in a very bad direction. God save this country…

Dear Vishal if you read the history of congress perhaps you might not complaint on congress administration. It is in the rule of congress land reform act implemented so that farmer became independent claiming he is the owner of the land

    - Even hundreds of tenants who lived in rented house ,even though they are not Chaal Geni holders , claim land of land lord ( through declaration ) and Cong ( I) supported this for sake of vote Bank.........and now same people are not cultivating..........and some of their children became Job less and moral police mans......

B Janardhana poojary by his salamela scheme poor people opened bank that it is reserved for educated and & rich people) .
    – For Opening Bank a/c Salamela was NOT a tool...We have opened uneducated labours a/c in nationalised bank without Salamela........By the way Many banks W/OFF bank loans......and Govt collected this dues by imposing tax.....

It is Smt Indira Ghandhi retained Punjab when they demanded khalisthan by operating Operation blue star as result she sacrified her life to this Nation .
    - Who created Khalistan problems........??????

By sending indian troops to curb the LTTE dominion over Srilanka and southern part of India he became Martyr .

    Dear Mr Poojary,
You claim that it is because of you that the DK area was won by the Congress.
Well I have downloaded and kept the above quotes of yours regarding your promises and I wish that hundred of others too do the same so we can be shown to you as the term progresses.
Likewise, the election manifesto of the Congress.
If your newly elected team lets us down then woe be to you.
I have a suggestion- let every Corporator be given an email address which automatically gets a cc to you and let all the citizens bring to the notice of the said Corporator what needs to be done in their ward.
Like wise let the ward committes have an email address with an auto cc to you so that you know what is being sent to them.
And from your side, you must have a website which gives a feedback on what complaints/suggestions have been given to your Corporators.
Why can this not be implemented immediately.
In other cities every corporator is known by their ward ie Corporator24@....... com or so.
Lets see the change Mr P.

People dont make big hype about Congress victory or Poojary's leadership. Its all usual in politics/Democracy.If One ruling party does not fare well it will be changed in the next election. Here BJP made ample ground for such a situation. Its ministers/MLAs induged in huge corruption amassing enormous wealth.Nobody in politics is clean or non corrupt. This factor neeeds to be underlined. While BJP people broken the records in amassing illegal wealth, initially results of ULBs is indication that in next assy election ruling BJP is on the way out. They have already started to pack up.Though Yediyurappa was instrumental in bring the first and only BJP state government in the south, later he & his council of ministers turned to be loot maars. The most sad part of the drama of last five years is that BJP which is seen as political tool of RSS has not made any attempt to stall the corrupt activities of BJP in the beginning instead its local/central leaders too are the benificiaries of loot maar booty.Perhapes Mohan Bhagavat might have taken the things very lightly or tasted the booty also.He also may not be knowing how many karodpathis were created by Yediyurappa in ordinary RSS cadres during his time.It is hoped that at least now the Congress will learn lesson from the past and present to give good governance and live upto peoples expectations. In total BJP has cheated and betrayed peoples trust. Now the question is who will lead BJP in the state for a total downfall/clean up in the ensuing assembly elections!

@jeevan, please do not be disheartened. Even after 2047, the situation will be the same. I am sure you know what is the basic reason, everyone who is elected have invested so much that they find it difficult to recover it in just 5 years. After recovering the amount spent they have to accumulate for the next election. After every election, elected representative works very hard only to fill their coffers, do you think they have time for development, poverty and social concerns? I am just curious how did Yeddy ( as he just floated his party) managed to field so many candidates, I just can’t imagine how much he must have looted Karnataka. Finally, I just want to know from commentators, is there any provision to know how these political parties are funding the elections. Is it under the ambit of RTI.

I dont understand why people make faces when Mr. Poojary speaks. Look at the picuture which speaks itself of the scorn with which they tolerate his speech. He does not have the courtesy of saying collective efforts but instead says I was in charge of D.K. district for election campaign and enusred success.
