Udupi: Attack on students in bus - Four held, protestors demand stringent action

Inchara Udupi
Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (NM)

Udupi, Mar 14: Condemning the assault on three young men by a group of people belonging to one community for allegedly talking to a girl of another community on Wednesday March 13, the members of various Hindu organizations on Thursday March 14 demanded immediate arrest of and stringent action against the members of PFI, who allegedly carried out the attack.

Four persons have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Police have assured to nab all the assaulters by Saturday.

The four arrested are indentified as Mullaru Pakirakatte Mubin (31), Thousif of Mullaru Kombagudde (25), Jalaluddin of Uchila (24) and Nasir of Uchila (21).

It can be recalled that two youths, identified as Srinath (23) and Rajesh (24), residents of Katipalla, Mangalore, along with another youth were beaten up by the group. The youths, students of a college in Mangalore, were returning to Mangalore from Manipal by bus when the incident took place. During the bus journey, the youths were reportedly talking to a girl from another community. Noticing this, a youth who was in the same bus informed members of the local community outfits who waylaid the bus and reportedly thrashed the youths.

Hindu organization protest again

Soon after the incident, members of Hindu organizations had demanded immediate arrest of all the assaulters. However, on learning that the police had not arrested all the culprits, the members of Hindu organizations again came together at Old Mariamma Temple at Kaup on Thursday morning.

After that, hundreds of people belonging to Hindu organizations took out a procession towards Kaup police station and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate arrest of the assaulters. There was tight security deployed at the station and only a few people were allowed to meet the police officers, reports stated.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, zilla panchyat member Geethanjali, Vishwa Hindu Parishad district president Suprasad Shetty Bykady, BJP leaders Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, Vijay Karkera, Yogish Rai, members of Hindu organizations Sunil K R, Srinivas Prabhu, Laxmikanth Prabhu, Jayanth were others present.

    Dear Allan,

thank you for your reply, ultimately we need peace... and if you stay united... no one can even touch our country... its hard to make each and every person understand abt the facts and reasons.. i agreee when people from other country create problems no matter british, pakisthan or any other country for the matter, it spoils the enviornment...but if people stay united they may ruin our wealth but they cant ruin our strength... correct me if i am wrong... basically we have to change our ideology and thats what am asking from the readers... ALHAMDULILLAH, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS MESSAGE IS LIMITED ONLY TO THE READERS OF DAIJIWORLD... N I DO BELIEVE THAT AT LEAST IF THE READERS OF DAIJIWORLD CHANGE THEIR IDEOLOGY... they may ask their friends or family to change theirs.....

seriously, sad to know that though indians are educated...we indians elect the rulers who are uneducated...

Very well said Mr.Hisham, I agree 100% with your words. There is no point in blaming the British for everything happening in our country today. Now Indians are much more educated than todays' Britishers. One do not need a mirror to see the wound on his palm. Everybody knows who is responsible for the unrest inside India, on the borders of India and for that matter all over the world.

I am against the moral policing whoever does. The law of the land is above all. Culprits must be booked.
Is it a conspiracy by Sangis ?The timing of the incident ( immediately after the defeat of communal forces, and before the assembly election), the location of the incident, presence of ( roaming ) of BD, VHP members at night in Muslim dominated areas in remotes of Kaup just after the incident are all just co-incident? Or this is part of Sanghi agenda to attack Minorities.
Who is the person who called these culprits about mingling of boys and girls in bus? Is he a Sanghi member or the guy backed by these communal forces? A thorough investigation only can reveal the truth.

Having said, I oppose moral policing of any kind, be they from any religion. It is their life and the one who should be concerned about it is her parents/brothers/husband, not the general public. It is none of their business interfere in others private life.

    Dear William sir,

Accepted your point of argument which is not my point here. This type of incidents were the product of Sanghparivar sister concerns and police indeed did not take action as per rule of land.So far such cases were mostly taken place in Mangalore District not in Udupi District. My Kudos are for 'UDUPI DISTRICT POLICE OFFICIALS ONLY'If we can recollect a incident in Moodubelle where place of worship was ransacked,IG,(western Range)Mr Pratap Reddy immediately swing in to action taken all culprits in to custody with record time.Particularly why we(I) should give Kudos to Police(KAPU POLICE OFFICER) because he(Police officer) did not allow to meet all people(mob) except few which should be a strategy of downplaying the incident. Dragging and assaulting passengers from bus for no reasons that also from third party is utmost condemnable act if we set aside moral policing for a moment.District police(Udupi) acted intelligently and downplayed whole episode till now. Udupi Police demonstrated their best not in this cases only but several cases in the recent past be it robbery, murders,or such kind of law and order problems.

What has happened to the cultural value of tolerance that has always been the bedrock of our civilization? If the girls travelled from Katipalla to Manipal with these boys, it is their wish no one has any right to interfere in their affairs except the parents.
The way BD and VHP member patrolling Muslim dominated areas in remotes of Kaup at night for last two days smells some conspiracy. This incident took place immediately after the defeat of communal forces in recent election. Is it a part of next election strategy to create nuisance and get political mileage? Did somebody use these boys to fulfill their agenda of hatred? A thorough investigation is required.

There was time when nobody dare to touch students in twin districts for whatever reasons. What happened in the bus yesterday was absolutely rowdyism and moral policing act.Once up on a time undivided district had ALL COLLEGE STUDENT UNION which used to take care all issues relating to Student fraternity.Unfortunately, still that union is working but never ever seen being worked for student's problem!Such kind of nuisances could be tackled by student union rather than taking support from other orgs. All College Student Union of DK and Udupi could effectively solve issue related to students then only MORAL POLICING UNIT COULD BE TAUGHT A LESSON.
