Update: 11.25 am

Mangalore, Mar 15: Nearly 500 protestors belonging to various Hindu organizations gheroed Kavoor police station here on Friday March 15 following clashes after stones were pelted on Congress victory rally on Thursday March 14 night.

The protestors demanded release of former BJP corporator Sharat Kumar who was taken into custody on Thursday night. It is said that during the lathi charge, Sharat and another person identified as Pramod were injured and admitted to a hospital.

The protestors accused Kavoor SI Umesh and police constable Hariprasad of hitting Sharat and Pramod. An eyewitness told daijiworld that in the police station they were made to sit on floor. "They were beaten in front of other police officials. When others went to ask them why they were being hit, they too were beaten," he alleged, adding that while all other police personnel were good, Umesh and Hariprasad were not.

Addressing the protestors, Umanath Kotian said that in the last five years no fight was reported in Kunjathbail. "The Congress victory rally went on till 1 am with music and DJ, but rules say that DJ cannot go on past 10 pm. This shows the inefficiency of police who are running behind money," he said.

The protestors gave a deadline of 48 hours to suspend SI Umesh, failing which they threatened to intensify their protest.

BJP minorty morch unit vice-president Franklin Monteiro said, "BJP may have been defeated in elections, but not in our ideology. If someone hurts our sentiments, we know how to answer."

He further asserted, "Even I am from a minority community, besides, my country is important to me. We will give the right answer to the injustice meted out by the police. BJP works only for national interest whereas Congress supports illegal activities."

Madhu Kiran, Sharan Pumpwell, Pradeep Pumpwell, Randeep, Suchetan, Koragappa, Jagadish Shnava, corporator Rajesh were present.

Vegetable stall set on fire

Meanwhile, late on Thursday night, a stall kept by a vegetable and fruits vendor near Kavoor junction fish market was set on fire by miscreants.

Abbas, who owned the stall, speaking to daijiworld said that he has been working in Kavoor from the past 25 years and had set up his stall at the spot four years ago. "I came to know about it only this morning at 5 am. I do not know why they destroyed my stall," he said.

Incidentally, though there are many stalls nearby, only one was targetted. Another vendor said that the stall was singled out because Abbas is from Kunjathbail.

In addition, several shops were closed in the area on Friday morning, possibly out of fear.

Mangalore, Mar 15: Stones were thrown at a victory procession of newly elected Congress city corporator, Muhammed, in the city on Thursday March 14 night.

To celebrate the victory of Muhammed, his supporters were going through various areas in and around Kunjathbail in the city. When the procession was drawing to a close, stones were rained on it. This gave rise to friction between two groups, following which the police intervened, caned the miscreants, and brought the situation under control. The incident occurred just when the procession was about to be concluded near Katte in Kunjathbail.

It is gathered that the Congress supporters, who got angry at those who pelted stones at them, attacked the trouble mongers. This gave rise to a street brawl between two groups, as a result of which a number of people got injured and had to be admitted into hospitals in the city.

Congress workers alleged that supporters of former BJP corporator from the ward, Sharat Kumar, were behind the stone pelting incident. Sharat Kumar has been taken into custody by the police.

The situation turned tense after Bajrang Dal leaders, Sharan Pumpwell, Madhukiran, etc rushed to the spot.

Police from Kavoor station acted swiftly and succeeded in dispersing the mobs. Cheluvaraj, inspector from Panambur police station, arrived on the spot and remained there till late night, to ensure that trouble does not break out again. police continue to patrol the areas of the ward and keep tight vigil.

There is information that supporters of Sharat Kumar are planning to mob Kavoor police station today in an effort to pressurize the police to release the corporator. It is said that protest by way of closure of shops in the ward today is also on the cards.

It is better the politician stay out of this Law & Order matter and let the police take the right legal action as per law.
Neither RSS, Bajrang Dal nor Congress goons can take law into their hands and pressurise the police to act as per their directions. Deal with everyone without any bias and as per the law but don't shy away from the duty under political pressure. The nation and the society stand above the political parties and their leaders that we elect that is temporary.
There should be an Independent Commission, that include home minister, home secretary, police DIG, retired DIG, retired judges, prominent citizens/lawyers, social organization District Governors etc to protect and safeguard the police force from being punished with stalling their promotions, irregular transfers and other revenge harassments on honest officials for discharging their duties.
GenNext! Please fight and protection the lawful rights of honest police official that is being dented by few dirty politicians and the corrupt higher authorities supporting or affiliated to certain political parties.

In the late 80's people voted for the BJP as they felt BJP would provide better administration. But 25 years the line, BJP backed by RSS has converted Mangalore-udupi region into a "LABORATORY" for their divisive, communal and oppressive agenda against its own cictizens..something comparable to Syria today under Bashar.

Our corrupt law makers / MLA's are corrupt, inefficient and lack vision.. they DO NOT listen to the voters but take orders from RSS Shakhas. Companies are reluctant to enter Mangalore-Udupi because of poor social environment(regressive moral policing, riots etc.), kickbacks to be given to local BJP politicians etc.

We people now NEED a change.. and must vote for a change if Mangalore has to prosper, develop and freed from Bachallis and taliban goondas who are running the city..The present regime reminds me of the Goonda raj of Lalu in Bihar.

More detailed version fo the incedent that triggered the situation is that some local Hindhus had asked the Congress workers not to use the katte (pedestal) installed there. The Congress leaders too had asked their workers to avoid any friction. However, one or two among the Congressemen showed their overenthusiam and climbed the pedestal to celebrate. This resulted in pushing around by the two groups and then we dont need to tell the vested intrests what to do next !!!

Sad to see my place in wrong news. More than half of the people seen there in the picture are not from Kavoor area, all BD imports. BTB I know this Vegetable seller very well, & if am not wrong he is the only one Male & Muslim vegi-seller in that small vegetable marker for many years & normal humble trader there. Whoever distroyed his shop intentionally weather some Bajrang dal goons or some congi goondas to create a communal issue, they have only blown fuel to otherwise small issue. Even the fish sellers behind the vegitable markets almost all of them Muslims except 2 ladies are most humble traders there who have won the hearts of all localites with people/customers from all the sects in the area are having good rapo with them buying not only fish but talking friendly in the evenings. Otherwise peacfull areas even though we have considerable number of Muslim families in and around Kavoor, Gandhinagar, Shantinagar untill Panjimogaru people always maintained peace & communal harmony even during the time of Riots.
I hope the situation returns back to normal without any further acceleration of the incedent. People who burnt the vegitable shop without for no reason whoever it is congi/bjp/hindu/muslim or whateva should be booked under goonda act as such small provocation is enough to create a Riot in a otherwise peacefull society.

BD NEVER LEARN A GOOD LESSON THEMSELF, AND THEY ARE NOT THERE TO SUPPORT THE HINDUS . THEY JUST USING HINDU PEOPLE IN THE NAME OF THEIR CULTURE/GOD. AND THEIR LEADERS, IF YOU SEE A LOOK AT THEM , DO THEY GOING TO WORK??? NO , THEY JUST COLLECT HAFTHA, IN THE NAME OF CULTURUL PROGRAMS AND ENJOYING THEIR LIFE. THE FAMOUS NAME IN MANGALORE FOR THOSE PEOPLE IS CALLED BACCHALEIS.

When you can't do good, why do bad ? Daijiworld needs to ask some tough questions to Mnagalore BJP unit. We can't let this kind of non-sense by BJP leaders to continue in our Mangalore. Power hungry and corrupt BJP, do something for the people instead of selfish motives.

Take these stone pelters and send them to kashmir to practice throwing stones at JKLF supporters in kashmir who constantly throw stones at army. That way there will be a free for all stone throwing match, and both parties can improve their stone throwing skills, and we can then train some potentially good stone throwers for our future indian olympic shotput, javelin and international lagori teams.

All the rioters are from BJP.. so when Congress comes to power they want to point fingers at Congress to say that only in Congress rule there are riots etc..

BJP, in today's world with media watching you can't escape from your mischief.

Stone pelting by BJP is not something new. For them it is hereditary! They have been doing it for the last couple of years and they are reasonably quite good at it. At least good at something, positively put!

Some readers reminding us time to time that in Guj were no riots/law and problem/communal riots etc etc during BJP regime!!!Who are the rioters?Who are the trouble makers in Mangalore/Udupi?CONGRESS PARTY need to take cautious steps as they may create a situation of riots and even communal riots ahead of forthcoming election.

Naufal, uddabettu r u absolutely right. BJP is like a wounded tiger who created lots of trouble, and congress is rubbing salt on the wounds of BJP. Gandhiji had already kept the salt ready through salt satyagraha for these days. Just kidding......
