The programme was compered by honorary advisor Niranjan Rai Matantabettu.

Umesh Shenoy, honorary president of Kambala committee, Poovaje Kushalappa Gowda, Keshava Bhandary Kaipa, Seetharam Shetty, Kangwe Vishwanatha Shetty, Ramachandra Maniyaani, Chandrashekar Madivala, IGP Pratap Reddy and his family were present to watch the sport.

In Puttur which is native place of DVS roads in interiors are very bad and people are getting torchered daily while these dumb animals are being torchered on kamlala day only.Otherwise they enjoy royal treatment and their life is better than village people in Puttur.DVS should think these people first.

    sharath,
This is same like training of horses for racing. Buffaloes are looked after well, trained for the event and this sport is the pride of Tulu Nadu. These particular trained buffalos are priced very high - from 1 lac to may be even 15 lacs. Many people have jobs in this and earn their livelihood because of this sport.
No one had asked for Govt. Funds then and I do not think they are asking now.
It is a local traditional sport.
No one asked DVS for the money which he is not in a position right now to allot, as he is not in the Govt.
You know very well it is a election gimmick from him.

    Rakesh Dsouza, M\re
This is a traditional sport. It was there years back but without much facilities. Presently it is upgraded as people have become more polished (wearing pants\shoes etc instead of the traditional lungi\ko***\barefoot\chappals} and want the surrounding of Kambala to suit their attendance - place to stand\sit\roof in case it rains -see the pictures how neat it looks.
But the earlier thrill will not be there with all these modernity.
After the race usually people would get into those muddy fields and have fun\frolic\athletic events
For all this modern upgradation (so that you may not get wet \dirty your clothes) money is required.
Right now DVS is announcing this amount (as if it is his personal donation) from the Govt. treasury but he is not minister etc. to announce that and this amount will not reach the Kambala Organisers. This is just election gimmick by DVS\BJP

Preserving the culture is very important in any other way,why we waste the govt money for silly promoting the Kambala culture in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, the Govt has decided to allot Rs one crore every year. From where Govt is paying amount.? and why not provide good reasonable job for Karnataka unemployed people in Karnataka state ..Where is kannadigas now?
DVS looks likes he is in a election campaign. Most of the kambala organizers are rich. They don’t care about the wasting money. Better give the money to the poor people who don’t have one time of having food and shelter.

Had it endorsed by Janardhan Poojary or somebody else from Congress Party more people might have agreed with this idea. Since it is from BJP Cadres, off course we can see these kinds of reactions from our readers. At least this funds goes to such Committee to organize the events whereby give employments to few people for few months around Coastal Area. There was no wide spread condemnation when our UPA Government ordered Helicopters worth Rs 300 Crore for each one

Without getting political, I think preserving the Tuluva Culture should be a priority. Its not entertainment alone, Buffaloes that were used to plough our fields when technology was not available, was it cruelty? What we would have eaten then?
These Kambala Buffaloes are looked after well, and racing them is not cruelty. Its an ancient sport which we should preserve.

I fully agree with Rakesh. Tax payers money should be used for country's development and not to torture animals for fun.
Many would have benefitted if same funds were used to develope the technology to mechanize agriculture in Karnataka or support farmers. E.g. so many men fall from areca/coconut trees while climbing, break their backbone, become bedridden at home without a decent meal a day. Looking at their status, new generation is reluctant to learn this technic. Only option for this is to find mechanized methods for which Govt should invest, support and encourage. Why to invest in Kambala???

How we believe promise of DVS?He is no more CM/Party President/Influential leader of the Party!!!(if a minister or CM would have promised, then OK)He was unceremoniously removed from CM post and in the same time promised Party President!Yet, after shuttling several times to Delhi, he was remained as a MLC only. Nalinianna ok, he is meant for Kammbla but however,Kambula was up graded by then CM Gundu Rao who himself flown from Bangalore to Moddbidri(MIJAR)to open(Haan BUDI)MIJARU GUTTHU SRI ANADA ALVA, who built STADIUM for KAMBULA first time and promoted the cultural event in undivided districts.

    Ismail,

How do you believe the promise of Janardhana Poojary of giving rice at 1 Rs per kg? He is no more influential person in the party.

Tulu was introduced in schools due to consolidated efforts of DVS, Acharya, Palemar etc. Did your congis taught about this in last 60 years? Mangalore got sanctioned one Govt Enngg College, the decision was taken yesterday in the cabinet meeting. DVS is responsible for this.

    Dinesh..

Now-a-days ENGG seats are available more than demand in fact last year thousands of seats were unsold in Karnataka! There were occasion when Engg graduates had some kind of respect...At present it is just like degree colleges! In Moodbidri there are two Engg colleges!!

About Mr Janardhana Poojari, just read one more time what he said.Where is J.Poojari and where is DVS?When BJP(J Poojari)MP or Minister,DVS might be wearing RSS Chaddi with Stick to get MLA ticket! And importantly,JP is one of the senior most leader in Congress and his hand can reach to CWC/H.C with due respect. DVS, had golden chance to develop twin districts during MP and CM tenure...but wasted for nothing..Forget Twin districts.....did he do something good for SULLIA/PUTTUR in his peak political time?It is BSY time Puttur did get more developmental funds !!!

Why torture poor bufellos in Kambala for the enjoyment of human beings.?
Is Govt is doing a favor to the public.? From where Govt is paying amount.?
As all are aware. this money is given form the Tax payers. instead of wasting this money invest the same money to public welfare or to control the inflation whihc will strengthen our economy.

Govt is increasing tax for everything and can't control the prices for neccesary items, but lavish to spend for all these activities only to please the voters for the next assembly election.
