Udupi, Mar 17: A horse riding demo at Milagres Cathedral grounds gave a rare thrilling experience of watching a live session by owner, Rayan Picardo, jockey of Bangalore turf club with jockey Alwyn Fernades to the gathered congregation of the parish after the 8 am mass on Sunday March 17.

Enthusiasts and equestrian sports lovers Alan and Sudheer Lewis and their team including Braan D’Souza, Peter Cornelio, Ozwald Cornelio,  Prashant Anada, Shankar Shetty, Iqball, Prakash Naik and others recreated the pleasure of horse riding.

Dr Neri Cornelio, the principal of Milagres College addressed the gathering and explained about the venture of Rayan and his team. He elaborated the era of forefathers who had the luxury of riding horses and used Victoria’s (Jatka) transport in Udupi’s Tanga da Kadi now called Tangadangadi near Kalasanka. The Jatka Sawari came to an end during mid 20 century when the motor transport took over the roads of Udupi.

The parish community along with youths appreciated and said this was an opportunity for the interested students in Kallianpur for learning horse riding.

The Rising Mustang Horse Riding School offers best summer packages with a discount for the school and college students.

Rayan thanked the Milagres Cathedral priests Fr Stany Lobo and Fr Prakash for their cooperation in providing space for the demo.

Horseback riding, though certainly fun, is a dangerous sport and it is ranked as the third most dangerous sport in the World. Accidents and isolated events make up for a vast majority of the serious or fatal injuries. The horse trips, goes down, steps on a person. The horse bucks in response to a sudden noise or action, kicks out in defense, bites, mows you down to get away. There are any numbers of situations that can arise. Though horses an element of danger into horse riding still it has been a favorite sport of mankind for millennia. Hence, if one is careful and builds trust in the horse, they can be minimized. I wish all the enthusiastic learners from Kallianpur and Udupi region, a very safe horseback riding.
The Rising Mustang Horse Riding School can think of having a branch in the Mangalore region. Wish you all the best!
