Udupi, Mar 17: Kaup police on Sunday March 17 arrested three more persons in connection with the assault on students from another community during a bus journey from Manipal to Mangalore.

The arrested are Rafiq Uchila (32) from Uchila, Mohammed Ashraf (21) and Sheikh Siraj (21). Police are interrogating them and gathering more information.

With this, the total number of arrests in the case stands at seven. On March 14, in a flash operation, police arrested Mubeen (31) of Mallar Pakeeranakatte, Tausif (25) of Mallar Kombagudde, and Jalaluddin (24) and Nasir (21) of Uchila.

The accused are currently lodged in Hiriadka jail and their bail petition is expected to come up for hearing on Monday March 18.

Three students, two of whom were identified as Srinath and Rajesh, were allegedly assaulted for talking to a girl from another community, by a group reportedly belonging to PFI on Wednesday March 13. The incident took place during a bus journey from Manipal to Mangalore. Following the incident, Hindu organizations went on a protest near Kaup police station demanding immediate arrest of and stringent action against the accused. A bandh was also observed on Friday March 15.

The investigations are being led by Karkala DySP Jayant Shety under the directions of Udupi SP Dr Borelingaiah. Karkala circle inspector Valentine D'Souza, Kapu police inspector Archana, Shirva inspector K R Naik, Padubidri inspector Mahadeva Setty and Kaup crime SI Rajendra Nayak and other other police personnel are part of the investigating team.

Meanwhile, JD(S) district president Deviprasad Shetty condemned the incident and said that all political parties and public should join hands and cooperate with the police in their investigation. He warned that as elections were approaching, some people have been playing vote bank politics and trying to create an atmosphere of unrest. "The people who are responsible for creating disharmony should be caught and given stringent punishment by the police," he said.

He also claimed that Rafiq, Ashraf and Siraj had surrendered to the police after JD(S) convinced them to do so. "The incident is an example for all those who lose their way," he added.

Shetty said the police should soon catch the remaining accused too, but at the same time ensure that they do not arrest or harass any innocent. "The police should also see to it that such incidents do not recur," he said.

Guys why are you all stressing yourselves so much, all such things happen all over the world. Racism, communalism, Castism etc. Just live your short life peacefully and humbly. May be 60 to 70 years of live and then leave. Rest of the things will keep going on with or without you until the world is alive. The End.

Guys, what is the point of venting out your anger against police in this forum. No police personnel read these comments, I think.

Coming to the arrest of attackers, it is good moral policing should not be allowed. But, when it comes to the punishment, members of all community should be treated equally. In the past several moral policing incidents reported in Mangalore by BD/RSS/Sena groups, I think they were not punished except the Home Stay arrest.

Only legal fairness will bring harmony and peace in the society.

i don't understand why BD/Rss people protesting? its funny as well as strange that they think what happened was wrong if they think so the why don't they stop doing the same thing . what these guys did is generally wrong but let law and police handle this let not these organisation get involved . it always happen when we get hurt we know the pain of getting hurt. inst it unfair and wrong when BD/Rss do its for saving their sisters if these do that called as assaulting,Where as both the groups are doing the wrong thing. There is only way to stop all this that is live and let live ,let no one interfere in anyone's life then changes ll happen itself.its our country make it beautiful lets not outsiders see and laugh at us and call us still illiterate.

BD / RSS have lost the moral rights to raise a finger towards other community regarding all these scrap issues. If they are really worried about all these incidents then they should come forward to arrest the real culprits of Pub Attack, Ice Parlour Attack and so on.
They can't because they have become more cheaper in Mangalore now a days.

Barring a few incidents due to the ignorance and hatred between a few illiterates in these both communities, India is a safest place for all minorities to live and prosper without any doubt. Minorities in Pakistan are killed and burnt alive on a daily basis and the Govt. there is a silent spectator.

As far as I know only two places in this beautiful Earth who prohibits talking to Women i.e. Saudi and Part of Afghanistan. Being Indians we do not know even heading towards which century now? Countries like UAE, Oman, Qatar, etc have no problem with this kind of issues since more & more Local Muslims Girls are working in various Offices filled with different nationalities but it doesn’t mean that they are involved in immoral activities. We do have respects for them and they respect others taught by their civilized culture. Just close the issue and move on instead of giving communal colour to this silly issue. Tit for tat tactic is required some time but should not be dragged for so long because Kaup is slowly becoming mini commercial hub for daily wage many migrated labour. So, if they get scarred they will either stop coming to our area or shift the base to somewhere else. Then we will have Labour problem everywhere in our region

So many times from a decade a right wing group attacked minority community students while talking with majority community girls why police did not arrest any of the accused or attackers? why right wing group did not protest against that attacks? why BJP did not protested against that attacks.? This is just a double standard from BJP for majority vote bank politics! Of course attackers/accused should be punished. No one is above the law.

We had lovely time during our days we never knows those time majority and minority community factor will stand around like this? Please note talking about just 5 to 10 years back not 150 years back most of them surprised how the changes had been occurred and taken in to d place rapidly after all with in 5 to 7 years, our days No moral policing at all, we had great respect between us, and still we all maintained in similar manner and we used to help each other as a friendly manner, I was very proud to recall our old days in fact no body bothered about religion, minority, majority community, We never seen any protest against the moral policing, even no body spoiled their future @age of 21 to 30 by involving moral policing, every body well settled and earning decent income to their families.
But here what we have seen from last few year moral policing had been compelled more then human being religion means everything, majority or minority community means everything, one should go under deeply moral character instead of moral policing most of the youths spoiled their life because of un acceptable attitude, those who all encouraged for moral policing indeed real culprit and secondly those who all involved also. Finally those who all are continuing as well. BIGGEST CULPRIT THOSE WHO ALL ARE SUPPORTING DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY
It is very glad to see most of them condemned the moral policing act but question is whether it is too earlier or late?
APPRECIATED and thanks for the immediate action.

Now its election fever started it seems to be . People of Karnataka should teach a lesson for parties who are dividing the society by Moral policing, pub attack, church attack, communalism, land grab, corruption scam in most of the ministries. Development munthra will not work by dividing society in the name of relegion . This is digital world and the youngster , educated are wise enough to the right candiadte and party with clean image. Jai ho, Karnataka. Only 2 months left. Then everything will be normal. The good name of Mangalore wil restore back as an educational hub with respectable people living with peace and harmony.

    Simple Solution:
    SAME JUSTICE FOR ALL:
    1. Pub attack
    2. Church attack
    3. Moral policing in Mangalore
    4. Home Stay attack
    5. Kaup Student attack.
I guess this is acceptable by JDS, BJP or CONG.
Decide cases one by one immediately and give same justice for all. Further attcks will STOP

Sure, Moral policing is not acceptable at all and nobody is above the law of the land.
But please ensure no INNOCENT is caught and harrassed. The police is looking for just young muslim boys, whether they are real culprits or innocents doesn't make any difference to them. They just need muslim boys. thats it!

This incident is a moral policing which should be condemned by CIVILIZED SOCIETY AS WHOLE.That being said 99% Moral Policings are done by 'BEEDI' and like minded orgs and there were no such law and order problemwhen they were indulging in such kind of activities ! When BD's own medicine asked to taste it has no taste and in fact sour to them!ANYWAY, CIVILIZED PEOPLE OF TWIN DISTRICTS REQUESTED TO NOT LEND ANY SYMPATHIES OR SUPPORTS FOR SUCH KIND OF INDIVIDUALS OR ORGS.LET MANGALORE/UDUPI REMAIN AS ONE OF THE FINEST DWELLING PLACE IN THE EARTH AS IT DID IN OLDEN DAYS.

QUICK ACTIONS OF UDUPI POLICE DEPARTMENT IS INDEED APPRECIATED.But sad part is BD did not give reasonable time to Kapu Police to arrest culprits.Yesterday's shut down is waste of time, energy and resources.

No mercy. Just one type of punishment no matter what community one belongs to. This stupidity of taking law into one's own hand has begun recently with the blessing of political leaders. Now you know what can happen if each community decides what morality is? No politics. Hang them, if you wish! But same standard for all. No minority, no majority, please!
