Shimoga: Man from Udupi falls prey to fraudster, loses Rs 5 lac

Daijiworld Media Network

Shimoga, Mar 18: A gang of fraudsters who cheat innocents by selling fake gold is said to be on the prowl in Shimoga district. A man from Mandya had fallen prey to their tricks recently, and now a native of Udupi is said to have become their latest victim.

Udupi Iskcon Temple manager Rajesh has filed a complaint in Vinobanagar police station in Shimoga of having been looted of Rs 5 lac by the gang.

During his visit to Dharmasthala, Rajesh got aquainted by a man aged around 50-55 years, who introduced himself as a native of Hosahalli in Shimoga and took Rajesh's mobile number.

A few days later, the man called up Rajesh and said that he had some old gold ornaments to sell. He said he was selling them as he needed money to marry off his three daughters. He claimed that being an illiterate, he did not trust anyone as he might get cheated.

"As you are engaged in god's work, you will not cheat me. I will sell the gold to you," he reportedly told Rajesh.

Rajesh, who believed the man's words, went to Shimoga and met him. He was taken to Machenahalli and given a piece of real gold jewellery, which he took back to Udupi and got it examined. On learning that the gold was real, he decided to trust the man and buy the rest of the jewellery.

As per their agreement, Rajesh returned to Shimoga with Rs 5 lac. The man instructed Rajesh to meet him at an isolated spot near Sominakoppa on the outskirts of the city. He then exchanged the jewellery for the money and left the place along with his assistant.

Later, when Rajesh examined the gold jewellery, to his utter shock he realized that the gold was fake and he had been cheated of Rs 5 lac. The man's mobile phone too was switched off.

He then lodged a complaint with the Vinobanagar police, who are investigating the case.

Waw... One more fish in the net. Mr. Conman must be in high spirits now. Lage Raho Munna Bhai..India has no dearth of intellectual fools.

Rajesh, the Iskon Manager, learned the lesson of life... which you couldn't learn from Iskon, although at an exhorbitant price.
Life changing lessons command a price.

Hope he has not used Temple funds!!!
Gods curse already on him for that!!?
We all fall for such kind of make-believe tricks sometimes or the other - educated\uneducated\wealthy\poor whatever.
Please do not sympathise with Rajesh but do not make fun of him too.
He has become poorer because of his greed.
Thank you God, I am content with what I have Amen.

RAJESH MAHA PRABHU , YOU ARE NOT KRISHNA CONCIOUS.. IF S YOU WOULDNT BE FALLING PREY TO SUCH NASTY THINGS. YOU ALSO THOUGHT OF YOUR BENEFIT. TELL ME , IF ONE WANTS TO SELL GOLD WHAT IT HAS TO DO WITH THE BUYER , HE CAN GET INTO ANY JEWELLARY AND CHECK GOLD RATE AND NEGOTIATE THE PRICE AND SELL OFF. WHY DOES HE HAVE TO CALL YOU TO SHIMOGA ALL THE WAY??? ANYWAYS, WHAT IS LOST IS LOST..IF LORD WISHES YOU WILL GET BACK YOUR MONEY..

My goodness, whom to trust now ? Always do the deal in front of gold merchant. Never go any unknown place. Let the gold seller come to gold verifying shop. Never loose 5 lacs like these. Now unnecessary headache and no sleep. In dreams also cry, my money gone, my money gone. We have to think twice or thrice, with the help of family members before we do any deal. So all will have no sleep if any thing goes wrong !!!

The prime reason for this dupe episode is Rajesh's greediness.

I am sure, the seller must have quoted the rate of gold much lower than that of bullion market which tempted Rajesh to strike the deal at a secret place. Now no need of crying. You dug yourself your grave, Mr. Rajesh.

Don't know who has to be blamed people or cops.... Once I got a call claiming he got gold and want to sell it, I did not entertain the call... Latter I called police station in mangalore and informed cops, gave the phone number also.. But cops refused to accept the complain , told me to come in person and give a written complaint....I didn't bother... Had they accepted the complaint on phone, at least some would have got arrested...

This incident reminds me of a shooting incident where Editor of Hi Banglaore,Mr.Ravi Belgere got a information that fake gold racket mafia is operating in some part of Karnataka.(most probably Harappanahalli)..He went with his friend whom mafia people approached over phone. When these two went to some remote place where they were asked to come, then cheaters attacked Belagere and his friend. So,Ravi Belegere fired at one of the gangmen with his liecsed revolver to protect himself..Attackers never expected this counter attaack and fled the place.Rest is history,Then home minister Mr.D.K.Shiv Kumar tried his best to put Ravi Belgere behind bar for firing at innocent people. But daring Belegere fought the case very well. All the looters were arrested and jailed for 5 years.

Dear Dr.Kamath mam,My intention was to highlight the foolish act of Rajesh of Udupi in making huge amount of jewlerry from a unknown vendor in these days. Can you imagine a person with little common sense will entertain this jewellery trade risking his hard earned(if) money to the tune of Rs.5 lakhs when there are genuine reputed jewellery shops in Udupi/Mangalore.I do not think that one should sympathise with persons like Rajesh who have no common sense.

As Rajesh is in the service of God,he should not feel cheated..instead he should feel happy that he has helped a person for his three daughters marriage.Accordingly the caption of the news needs to be changed "A man from Udupi helps a needy person for Rs.6 lakhs"
By the by how Rajesh has Rs.5 lakhs?Whether he is an income tax payer?Any modus operandi behind this owning Rs.5 lakh?
