Mangalore, Mar 18: The Congress party on Monday March 18 launched its publicity campaign for the upcoming state Assembly elections with convention of its party leaders and workers at Nehru Maidan. It was also a thanksgiving programme to express gratitude to the voters who brought victory to the party in the recent urban local body elections.

Congress leaders Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom, Janardhan Poojary, Ramanath Rai, Jayaparakash Hedge, Abhayachandra Jain, Vinay Kumar Sorake, K S Mohammed Masood, U T Khader, Mithun Rai, Moideen Bawa, Vasath V Salian, Shakunthala Shetty, Mamatha Gatty, Vijay Kumar Shetty, J R Lobo, Ashith Pereira, Arun Coelho, G A Bawa, Gafoor, Padmanabh Naringana, Ibrahim Kodijal, B H Khader, Sadashiva Ullal, Sriram Patje, Ashraf, Ivan D’Souza, Nagendra and others were present on the dais.

The programme was inaugurated by lighting the auspicious lamp by the dignitaries. The oath taking ceremony by all the elected membersof the urban local body and the candidates who have submitted their nominations for the legislative assembly election was carried out by veteran Congress leader, Janardhan Poojary.

Speaking after the inauguration, Veerappa Moily thanked everyone for bringing victory to Congress in the ULB elections. He urged the elected members to take the oath earnestly and not just utter it. He also asked them to be responsible every minute and most importantly, to be non-corrupt.

"If all these points are adhered to, then the public will surely accept, respect and choose Congress in the upcoming elections as well. No Congress leader should fall prey to operation Kamala of BJP that is in force, instead we should join hands to demolish that operation from the root," he said.

"Public need freedom from caste discrimination, corruption and other evils deeply rooted in the society. Congress has full power to uproot all these evils. Sonia Gandhi was the first to initiate the anti-corruption drive by means of Lokpal Bill. She is the one who has always been against gender discrimination, crime against women and has taken serious steps to prevent the same," he said.

Oscar Fernandes said, "Congress manifesto shouldn’t remain as just a manifesto, appropriate steps have to be taken to fulfil the promises. All the newly-elected city corporators have enhanced the image of Congress. The ULB results are a clarion call to prepare for the upcoming legislative assembly elections," he said.

The programme was presided over by B Ramanath Rai, who welcomed the huge gathering. Ibrahim Kodijal proposed the vote of thanks.

My advice to congress is to workout a seat sharing arrangement with JDS so as to get full majority and to avoid splitting of votes which will help some other parties.

All the congress leaders in the picture are rejected by the people many times. Why they are still there. People elected congress in the last ULB elections, that does not mean people will vote for these rejected, useless people. If these people were canidates for ULB elections, they would have definitly lost the elections. People do not want them. Please bring the new charismatic blood who work sincerely without any selfishness. Congress high command should tell all these big loosers who loose all elections to take permanent rest.

Good to know that Congress started public stunt campaign for assembly election.
Now the situation is such that if few Congress members/ministers gathers it is developmental work in Coastal/twin district by UPA.
People don't forget Congress means corruption and not intersted in public welfare, if that was the case today Inida would have been flourished like S.Korea after our 1947 indenpendce. Still we are lagging in basic needs like power, poverty, education, infra-sturcture,security concern, etc. We are head in corruption & developing foreign banks by deposit. God give thought to Vagabonds.

The BJP has to learn a lot from Indian National Congress party. It is not easy to take every person together irrespective of caste and creed.Only congress can do this and none of the parties in India as secular as congress. They carry one agenda, one color, one flag and one motive that is unity.

I do not understand why Oscaranna always brings his wife Blossam to all political functions & sits along with him on the dias. What is her role here..guest,officer bearer,AICC member? If not,all important deginatories should also bring their wives to the dais .Then only this nonsense could be avoided.People may be feeling uncomfortable to advise Oscaranna. It is not private/family function after all.

Yes why not? After all they got huge reserves of funds from various scams like 2G, CWG, Coal Gate, Helicopter Deal, Farmers Loan Waiver Scheme, etc, etc. Poor BJP got only one scam in their kitty i.e. thanks to Reddy Brothers but they landed up in Jail and their Property seizure is going on step by step by IT Authorities. But it is quite interesting to know that they took Oath in the name of whom? May be some of them whispering after the Oath that “Oh God pls forgive me”

Congress or BJP, your actions as well as inaction, good as well as bad, speak louder than your election campaign in the minds of the people.
People who these parties field will exhibit policies of the parties.
Sadly people have less choice, to choose best among the worst.
This is the situation created by parties.

If congress works earnestly it will earn the praise of the people for years to come other wise it will bite the dust. By the way what are the buddas doing on the stage, time for young to take a commitment to lead.

Pl dont blame buddas or reject them. There is a popular proverb in Kannada...."Hosa vaidyanigintha haleya rogiye vaasi" They have experience bad or good.
We have example of young enrgetic leaders in poliitics for e.g., Nitin Gadkari former BJP president...you know his style. what happened to him...

    Dear Congees,

Voters didn't give you a chance this time for what you have done as an opposition party or for what you have done in the past 5 years. They were tired of BJP and just for a change, they voted you. In most of the wards, you won due to internal issues with BJP the division of its traditional votes...
So, never be so proud of this victory. Mangalorean voters are watching you, do well in the next years and make Mangaalore a model city.
Otherwise, what happened with Mayor this time will be repeated with all of your Corporators next . . .
    Love to hate Congees . . .

I fully agree with you.Now there appears wave in favour of Congress,if the ULB election results are any indication. As rightly said Congress people should not be under the impression even by mistake that ULB election results are due to their efforts, past performance, policy etc.,Every knows the history and performance standards of Congress.Inspite of all negetive traits the people have chosen for the change because they are tired of BJPs policies pronounced and later its implementation.Being betrayed by BJP they have no other choice to give a chnce to Congress. Now it is up to Congress to understand the sentiments of the masses and stand up to their expectations.Seniors should moot a committee to oversee the progress of gfovernance/manifesto/assurances and see that good governance is delivered at least try to be better than BJP.If not thumbs down next time.Remember people are your masters. This time people should not get emmotional for BJPs manifesto or assurances and vote for a change and teach a ungettable lesson to them. There is no other way out.

Congress has started it's campaign with a bang and Senior Congress leaders of Twin Districts are showcased their unity and commitment towards general Public is a welcome step for the party workers. We can see here all communities, caste, creed and folks in one stage and that is the plus point of Congress Party.Congress need to put full effort with one voice and should not take oppn parties, particularly BJP for granted under the joy of recently held ULB election victory. Some are how, BJP might felt isolated by now after seeing series of party gatherings and UPA's quantum jump in the mega developmental projects in Karnataka and especially in COASTAL TWIN DISTRICTS which may bore fruits for Congress Candidates in the forthcoming election of Karnataka Assembly.
