Udupi, Mar 19: The United Welfare Association, Shirva(UWAS), formed with the motto ‘Let us render help together’ was inaugurated at Our Lady of Health Church grounds, Shirva here on Sunday March 17. An evening of devotional songs marked the occaison.

Parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Fr Stany Tauro inaugurated the event by releasing balloons.

 In his speech he advised the attendees to help the needy and poor which is the responsibility of every individual.

On the occasion, parish priest of Tannirbavi Church, Fr Sunil Kumar D'Souza wished success and conducted a prayer service.

He also called upon devotees to spend time on reflections during the Lenten season.

As many as 16 needy people were given financial aid worth Rs 50,000 by the association.

Conrad Castelino, president of the association welcomed the gathering while Rayan Menezes, secretary delivered the vote of thanks. Alwin Danthy compered the event.

Arul D'Souza, Gerald Menezes, Fredrick D'Souza, Stanly Dias, Ronald Moras, Wilson Rodrigues were also present.

The devotional musical nite was directed by Dalvin Mendonca. Singers Vinay Lewis (winner of Gulf Voice of Mangalore), Prajoth D'sa, Anil D'Sa, Nilzy D'sa, Ivy D'Souza and Shaini Rodrigues enthralled the audience with their beautiful renditions.

Around 750 members attended the inauguration.

Suresh Shetty Gourme, Prakash Shetty Shirva,  Fr Gratian Alvares, Fr Naveen D'Souza, vice-president of the church governing council Irvin D'Souza and others were present.

    Thank you Arul and his team for giving us an opportunity to be a part of this beautiful event. It was indeed a well organized program. The stage set up was superb. Soothing music by Dolvin and his team. The cooperation given by the crowd was great, their presence on time made the organizers to start the event on time. It was an event organized for a better cause. Hats off to the organizers and once again thanks a lot......
