Dismiss Moily for corporate connection: BJP

Moily's son denies any wrongdoing in receiving funds

New Delhi, March 19 (PTI) : In the eye of a storm over receiving grants from a corporate giant when his father M Veerappa Moily was the Corporate Affairs Minister, Harsha Moily today said his company received funds from "professional investors" before Moily senior joined the government.

He also said his family trust received only Rs 42 lakh as donations from corporates and not Rs 6 crore as reported.

"It is important to note that MokshaYug Access India Pvt Ltd (MYA) received funding from professional investors in 2008, much before my father joined the government," Harsha Moily, Founder and CEO of MYA, said in a statement.

"MYA's investors did due diligence on MYA through the most part of 2007, and the funding from VCs (venture capitalists) came through in March 2008," he said.

Moily senior was made the Law Minister when UPA-II came to power in 2009 and he was shifted to the Corporate Affairs Ministry in 2011.

On ITC funding the family trust, Kissan Sabha Trust, Harsha said the Trust has not received any funding of Rs 6 crore as was being reported.

"As a practice, budget requirements are drawn to understand the funding requirements to run educational institutions for underprivileged poor and school dropouts. The estimation for a yearly operating expenditure was worked out at Rs 50 lakhs a year.

"A corpus to ensure yearly interest receipt was worked out at Rs 6 crore to yield Rs 50 lakhs at 8 per cent interest per annum. The estimation of creating a corpus is an accounting exercise," he said, adding "the Trust has not received any funding of Rs 6 crore."

"It has been granted Rs 42 lakhs to fund the operating expenditure for the year though the operating expenditure is higher and is met from donations from the public," he added.
On the role of Reliance Industries executive Ananth Ravi, Harsha said during his days at RIL between 1999 and early 2002, he came in contact with Ravi and built a personal relationship with him.

"He (Ravi) played a mentorship role in MYA during the period he wasn't employed at Reliance between December 2011 to July 2012. He excused himself from the advisory board upon rejoining Reliance in August 2012. Accordingly, we removed his name from MYA's website a few months ago," Harsha added.

Dismiss Moily for corporate connection: BJP

Daijiworld Media Network
With PTI Inputs

New Delhi, Mar 19:
Demands for dismissal of Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily were made in the Lok Sabha today by BJP members following reports alleging that a corporate giant provided funds to his family-controlled trust when he headed the Corporate Affairs Ministry.

"Dismiss Moily" chanted BJP members during the Zero Hour.Their shouts were drowned in the din created by DMK and AIADMK members, who had stormed the Well on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Moily was not present in the House. The reports had claimed that the Kissan Sabha Trust (KST), headed by him and run by his family members, had received funds from a corporate giant last year when he was the Corporate Affairs Minister.

Reports stated that when Moily was the corporate affairs minister, he allegedly received large sums of donations for his Kissan Sabha Trust from ITC.

A TNN report stated that the details of the donation emerged in a leaked chain of emails between Moily's son Harsha and his business partner Sudhir K Prabhu, as well as in filings of the trust.

In the emails, Harsha is said to have informed Prabhu that his father had confirmed the donations from ITC for the next five years. He asked Prabhu to furnish operating expenses bills for Karkala and Chikaballapur schools for the academic year 2011-12, so that ITC could process the payments. Prabhu replied to Harsha that the total capital cost of the two schools would come up to Rs 4.81 crore, and a corpus fund of Rs 6 crore could be applied for at 8 percent per annum.

Also, president of Reliance Industries Ltd Ananth Ravi is one of the advisors in the Moksha Yug Access run by Harsha Moily. The presence of an executive of a petrochemical giant in Harsha's trust is seen as conflict of interest against Veerappa Moily in his capacity as the petroleum minister, reports stated.

Some of the comments are biased & pro in this forum when some Congess leaders will indulge in unaccounted business, corruption, trust running by public funds, then it is called Charity. Also Congress leaders ared good in taking the credit on their shoulder for something which they have not done.
First CET was introduced by Janata Party government headed by Mr. RKHegde (CM from 10th Jan 1983 to 1988) then SRBommai till 1989. I was the first batch of CET introduced. Where is the question arise Mr. Moily is architect of new CET (as per WIKIpedia on Moily), even CET was there in state like Tamilnadu even before Karnatak introuduced in 1984.Some people commented CET was first in India intoruduced by Mr. Moily, this is not true. Then Congress got opportunity to lead governament in Karnataka from 1989 to 1994, that time Congress has provided 3 CM's (Virendra Patil,Bangarappa, Veerappa Moily)in 5 years tenure. Now people are commenting BJP has provided 3 CM's in 5 years & spoiled K'natak. What a convieninet comments, proverb is very perfect "Ondu kannige sunna and Ondu Kannige Banna". Please don't waste your valuable time in appreciating politicans, as we know that those people are vagabonds be it from Congress/BJP/JDS/Communist, etc. No one is intersted in public welfare.

CET was introduced by late Ramakrishna Hedge, not by Veerappa Moily. Here I see people commenting based on party, a thorough enquiry should be made by independent committee headed by a supreme court judge, on this matter, not by CBI, as everyone knows CBI is controlled by central govt. Regardless a politician is good or bad. No politician is a saint, nor do the great old congress party, just look at the corruption involved in UPA and the BJP in Karnataka. UPA headed by congress is equally corrupt and they don't deserve another chance. Please cast your vote to Aam Admi Party headed by Arvind Kejriwal, he is clean, his party is clean and neither he accommodates any people from other political parties, nor he wants their support. Mr. Kejriwal please put up some good honest candidate in up coming Karnataka assembly election. Good, decent, educated and sober people will support your candidates based on their background and clean image. We have lost faith in both BJP, congress, JD(S) and all other parties, which are looting the country royally and making the Aam Admi stupid.
God save our country from these crooks.

So why depend any party who don't even care abut citizen of the nations and why you guys break your heads. Take care of your family , have nice lunch, educate your kids and teach them not to be corrupt, communal, and show them love each other, help the poor, needy etc will improve the society rather wasting your time on defending Yeddy is good, moily is bad, congresss is good and BJP is bad etc. all are useless idiots and blood suckers of poor.

There should be an independent enquiry and the truth should come out. Only the interest @ 8% as per above will be utilised and from the couple of guys words here, Moily is really doing great work for the needy in their education. When I came to know of this trust, I went and got back to studies free of cost incl. a simple veg lunch. Today after passing engineering, I am working for Reliance Industries Ltd. I thank Mr. Moily from the bottom of my heart. When I met him once in Mumbai, I reminded him about my past and how he helped me. He just said that he was grateful to God to have given him the courage to start this trust. He advised me to tell my other friends about his trust.

my response is to the appreciation shown ... Irrespective of the current fiasco of what Moily's son is utilizing his fathers contacts or goodwill to get funds for charitable work as is already acknowledged by emails , its the acknowledgment of s out that he has benefitted that should give the benefit of the doubt to Mr. Moily . let the law take its course based on scutinizing how the funds where obtained and utilized and if influence is per se a crime ... Till then i think all political parties , conspiracy theories should take a back seat and acknowledge the good work even if only one individual has benifitted.
Its also commendable that his son has taken on the mantle of trying something noble for society rather than amassing wealth for self and family like anybody whoose father holds a cabinet rank .

In Karkala, I have seen two types of organizations, one normally in to luring innocent children to join communal groups and brainwashing them with all extremist ideologies. The second one, like Kisan Sabha trust is in to social welfare activities like bringing back all school outs and running residential school for them, it conducts free CET coaching classes poor students who can't afford to pay to private caching classes.
Moily during his tenure as education minister asked all educated institutions stop collecting capitation fee and started CET which was later adopted by all other states in India. Had he not done this I would have never become an engineer, because my father just couldn’t ever afford a payment seat for me. I still remember going to Mahathma Gandhi Residential School to attend CET coaching classes, it was free and open to all (with free lunch :)).
I met Mr Moily in London in 2010 when he was a law minister. The only thing I told him 'Sir, Today I am here because you'. He told me they are going to start similar schools & classes in Chikkaballapur. Corporates donating to such trusts is very common unless someone really wants defame our Mr Clean Moily.

All Bhagyalaxmi Beneficiaries will remember Yeddyurappa forever and they are thankful to him.
