Bangalore, Mar 20: Staunch and one of the most vocal loyalist of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Excise Minister M P Renukacharya has decided not join the former’s KJP and stick to the ruling BJP.

''I will contest on the BJP ticket from my Honnali assembly constituency in the ensuing State Assembly elections on May 5," he said.

Renukacharya, who was widely expected to join Yeddyurappa’s regional outfit KJP before the assembly elections, declared at the news conference in Bangalore on Wednesday: ''I will not leave BJP. I have all the respect for Yeddyurappaji. But I have decided not to join KJP."

The KJP leaders have been claiming that Renukacharya would join the KJP along with other couple of other senior Ministers in the Jagadish Shettar government soon after announcement of calendar of polls to the legislative assembly.

Renukacharya said he would contest the elections from Honnali, a constituency he is representing in the current Assembly.

Renukacharya, a loyalist of Lingayat strongman Yeddyurppa, said that his supporters and the people of his constituency were in favour of continuing in the BJP.

He claimed that he had introduced several reforms in the Excise department after he becoming the minister and said the Department’s revenue increased from Rs 7200 crore in 2007-08 to Rs 11,000 crore in 2012-13.

The department recorded collection of Rs 9827.89 crore in 2011-12 against the target of Rs 9,200 crore, an increase of Rs 627.89 crore, the minister noted.

B B Shivappa Sworn in as MLC

Meanwhile, veteran BJP leader B B Shivappa, a former State president of party, was sworn in as the member of the Karnataka State Legislative Council to fill up the vacancy caused by the resignation of newspaper and transport tycoon Vijay Sankeshwar from BJP to join Yeddyurappa’s KJP.

Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy administered the oath to Shivappa in the presence of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, State BJP president K S Eshwarappa, Ministers and several party leaders.
Shivappa’s term would come to close by June 2014.

The 83-year-old Lingayat leader Shivappa, who played a crucial role in building the party organisation as its State president in its initial years, was elected MLA twice for Sakleshpur and had also served as MLC for a term.

Later speaking to presspersons, Shivappa said he would continue to fight against corruption both inside and outside the Council.

A large number of relatives of Shivappa attended the programme.

Renukacharya has no other option ,he should stay in BJP to keep his self respect alive. He was very obedient to Yeddy before. But Yeddy treated him like a servant. When Yeddy got angry over any subject,he showed it on Renukacharya everytime.Even Shobhakka used Yeddy to harass Renuka. If Renuka leaves BJP and join KJP,then it is a second innings.Same bad words, unhappy situation. So,it is good from the point of Renukacharya to stay in BJP to keep his self respect alive.

    Renu,
If a minister who is behaving like this what example he will give to others? So far he pretended to be Yeddis follower and now he says he is Shettar follower and Tomorow something else. People of his constituency must defeat this fellow totally . What a character this man is embraced with ? How can we trust each other. Very very bad

    Ha ha ha . . .
These entire group BJP MLAs are giving free entertainment to the state voters. We still didnt forget this guys behavior in the last season of the Resort politics blackmailing Yaddi for a better post.
And also we didnt forget the NURSE case . . .
Only the voters can teach these a good lesson.
Wake up people, never give another chance to these kind of selfish and corrupted politicians.

BJP should not give a ticket to this man. How people tolerate this man's monkey dance is not understandable. Kick this corrupt out of politics forever.

What surprises me is that my driver who is from Honnali was a ardent fan of this man and the way in which he speaks shows that he has a large number of followers mainly because he is a Lingayat(We Mangaloreans can't digest this fact).

It seems that coming election is a fight of the castes/religion which is a tragedy of electoral politics of our country.

Now he is showing his true colour. He knows that KJP is a sinking ship and he will not benefit by joining it. It is a slap on the face of Dhananjay who announced yesterday that Renukacharya will be joining KJP soon. Renuka has clearly stated that in his tenure the revenue of Excise department has increased considerably because HE HAS INCREASED THE NUMBER OF "ALCOHOLICS" in the state which is his biggest achievement...

RENUKACHARYA AND SOMANNA are most vibrant AAYA RAM GAYA RAM politicians in the contemporary politics of Karnataka.Renuka contesting in KJP or BJP does not matter. In the last held ULB election (DAVANGERE)BJP did get only one candidate but same day he resigned BJP and joined CONGRESS.Actually, that area was under BJP's bastion for long time.It was like UDUPI,DAVANGERE was long time with BJP but Congress trounced with large margin which is a shock to BJP,RENU and minister RAVINDRANATH!!!RENU may loose deposit this time around as his hand also there in denting BJP's image in initial stage.

Instead BJP should not contest in this constituency and allow the most eligible winning candidate in Honnali to be elected unanimus & save some public money, than giving ticket to Renuka. If BJP dont want learn the lesson. Sheltering Persons like trees sheltering termites which will make the sinking hole bigger & bigger.
