CBI raids Stalin's house

Timing of CBI raid unfortunate: PM

New Delhi, Mar 21 (IANS): The timing of the CBI raid on DMK leader M.K. Stalin was "unfortunate" and the government had "no role in it", an upset Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Thursday.

"We are all very upset (at these events). The timing of this is unfortunate. The government had no role in this that I am sure of. We will find out the details," the prime minister told reporters.

Later, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V. Narayansamy said neither the government nor the Congress had an axe to grind against the DMK, which quit the ruling United Progressive Alliance Tuesday.

"There is no politics involved (behind the CBI raids). We will examine it. The CBI is an independent body," Narayanasamy told reporters.

Angry DMK members did not allow the parliament to function over the raids in Chennai early Thursday.

Stalin is the son of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi.

CBI raid on Stalin's residence got over, not called off: Official

The CBI early Thursday raided the residence of M.K. Stalin, son of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, triggering a political storm.

In New Delhi, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said he strongly disapproved of the CBI raid leading to reports that it had been called off.

However, a state intelligence official told IANS that the search had "got over and was not called off".

Raid on Stalin - BJP says Congress misusing CBI; Chidambaram disapproves action

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday accused the Congress-led UPA of misusing the CBI to threaten its allies into forcibly supporting them.

"It is a proven fact that the government (UPA), to stay in power, has been using the CBI to continue their strength in the government," BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy told news channel Times Now.

"When the alliance partners are leaving them, they are using their authority against them. It is a sharp message to the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party that if you leave the Congress party, you will meet the same fate. So, it a veiled threat," he added.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the "government was surviving in power on the crutches of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate".

Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday carried out a search at the residence of M.K. Stalin, son of DMK chief M.K. Karunanidhi, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The search comes two days after the DMK announced its decision to pull out of the central government and the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), dissatisfied with the centre's stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

The Samajwadi Party, whose support to the UPA government has become crucial after the DMK's exit from the coalition, has been playing hard with the government and seeking Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma's resignation after he publicly rebuked Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Strongly disapprove of CBI's action against Stalin: Chidambaram

The CBI move to search the residence of M.K. Stalin, son of DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, was "bound to be misunderstood", Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Thursday while expressing his "strong" disapproval of the action.

"Normally I do not comment on the working of another department (home ministry), but in this case I have to say that I strongly disapprove of the CBI's action. It is bound to be misunderstood," Chidambaram said.

"I have conveyed my views to the minister in charge and I suggest you put further questions to the minister in charge," he added.

Sushilkumar Shinde is union home minister.

CBI raids Stalin's house

Chennai, Mar 21 (IANS): Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are carrying out a search at the residence of M.K. Stalin, son of DMK chief M.K. Karunanidhi, Thursday.

Curiously, the search comes two days after the DMK announced its decision to pull out of the central government and the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), dissatisfied with the centre's stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

The raid at Stalin's house began around 6 a.m. CBI officials here are tightlipped about the details of the case.

It is reliably learnt that the CBI registered the case in New Delhi and the raids are in connection with the import of cars and payment of customs duties.

The CBI also raided Stalin's friend Raja Shankar's house here in this connection.

Reacting to the raids, Stalin told reporters that it was mere political vendetta, and he would face all the legal cases.

Stalin is the third person in his family to be questioned by the CBI.

In 2011, the CBI questioned Stalin's mother Dayalu Ammal and sister Kanimozhi.

Kanimozhi and Dayalu Ammal were questioned in connection with the flow of over Rs.200 crore from Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa's DB Realty firm to Kalaignar TV, a regional Tamil channel in which Karunanidhi's family members allegedly have majority stake.

Later Kanimozhi was charged as co-conspirator in the 2G scam with former telecom minister A.Raja, and lodged in Tihar jail. She is now out on bail.

So - CBI raids Stalins's house . So what !!. I think it was in the best interest of the government to not stop CBI( from carrying out these raids). In turn CBI should conduct raid on Congis to bascially establish their credibility(which is what they dont do)

First it was jagan - when he was in congress he was good .after he formed his own party he is found to be corrupt.

    and this continues with DMK...

    Hope anarchy doesnt prevail.

Point to be noted is stalin innocent or a culprit
If Innocent why is he quite why cant he file defamation case against the CBI or people responsible for ride.
What was the out come does he really avoided the customs duty for the vehicle he brought from abroad? If that is true why there is no news abt his vehicle?

DMK took out support from UPA yesterday. Today DMK's Stalin's house was raided by CBI. The UPA Govt now says that it didn't have any role in the CBI raid & asks CBI to explain about the raid.

Now, there are two possibilities according to me.
    1. Govt keeps tab on CBI & when someone takes support out, Govt asks CBI to raid them.
    2. CBI wants to raid these politicians but due to the Govt. pressure, keeps away from it. As soon as they come out from Govt, CBI gets chance to raid them.

In both cases, Govt is the culprit.

    1. Regarding CBI raid on Stalin: On one side he is telling there is no role of Government in this CBI raid. If that is the case CBI is doing its duty. Then why you are upset? why you are bothered about timing? why it is unfortunate? You must support CBI action.
    2. When Beni Prasad is acusing Mulayam, goverment must take some stand. Either you approve what Beni Prasad says and order enquiry against Mulayam. Or disapprove what Beni says and punish the minister for giving nonsense statement. After all it is very serious charge. You cant call a MP a terrorist and taking commission without any proof.
    3. When Mr. Shinde commented on BJP, either Government should have ordered investigation and booked case against BJP, because if BJP is running terror camp you cant allow them to sit in the parliament. Or You can not allow a minister to give such a foolish statement. He is not fit to be minister.
    3. Regarding Tamil issue, clarify government stand clearly. What government thinks, whether Sri Lanka Committed genocide/ war crime etc. If yes act accordingly don’t welcome Sri Lankan president/ minister etc. For Mr. Modi day in and day out all congress is shouting that he orchestrated mass murder when nothing has been proved, but at the same time government is welcoming Lanka president to India and also saying that sri lanka committed war crime genocide etc etc.

Ajit Mangalore has given the right write up here
It justifies who at the slightest chance jumps up to spread bad things of a very good party.
Most likely it is contagious - BJP party to its blind followers.
Suddenly they go into depression and then suddenly they start abusing\making weird remarks against Congress - They just cannot stomach the good things done by Congress\UPA. Any other Political party are not able to govern India - they just do not qualify - All have seen\experienced that earlier at the center as well as at State level.
Support congress by giving mandate so that they can work for development of our Nation.
Without the mandate they are suffering from blackmail from its political partners and hampers the progress.

So the PM didn't use CBI 'this' time for political purpose. Otherwise why MMS is upset that CBI is doing its job.

If CBI is an independent investigative agency, why someone get's upset with its activity. Is he not directly interfering it's activity by abruptly stopping the enquiry and saying publicly that he's upset. Is this his 'eminence'. What message we are sending to the world. Even if you don't want to 'show' that you are fighting corruption, please don't activiley promote it.

Dear Peter & Vincent Bhai Saab, try to console yourselves no problem but pls don’t try to convince others with your own logic. You mean to say CBI got the proof yesterday evening say at 05.00 P.M. after the departure of DMK MPs’ from Delhi to Chennai? Do you know the latest news, Jagmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradhesh Jail agrees to coordinate with Congress in next State and Central Election, so, very strict CBI Officer Laxminarayan has been shifted from AP to Delhi with immediate effect and all Reddy Brothers will now get bail without any hassles. But only good news that, since Jagmohan will come out on bail, our Coastal National Highway Works will restart too

Dear Anna Munnentra Kazhagam, now you got to know why so many parties unwillingly supported UPA Government at Central. Maya, Mamata, Many Yadavs, Few Annas and Munnas “all iz well” when they support UPA and moment they depart from UPA House, CBI will follow them like “Boothnath” We want to see how CBI will function and perform when NDA Governments comes after next election

Just for the irregularities in a imported car, CBI raids the house of # 2 in DMK. The move was indirectly warn Mulayam Singh to not to blackmail them on the comments of Benni Prasad by asking his resignation. Mulayam also aware of this and since morning he is in consultation with his party secretory Ramgopal Yadav. The timing of the CBI raid this time right after withdrawing support, will gave impression that the agency indeed a Congress bureau Investigation and it will back fire them dearly. if Mulayam dined the support then "GOVINDA" of UPA.

It is abundantly clear that the Corrupt Congress dominated UPA Government has openly showed its intention to gain support by unleashing CBI on those who threaten to withdraw support to the Government. Fearing CBI onslaught most sitting-on-the-fence parties will now not dare to withdraw support but only bark. Bet it, BSP, SP, TMC,DMK, and the likes for fear of exposure of their misdeeds.

CBI can only do something if there is something wrong. CBI has never been accused for creating false cases.
Hence the action by CBI is justifies for taking action against irregularities.
If you are clean then you don't have any CBI problems. Look at Mamata Banerjee- she does not face any CBI case or raids.
So why cry tears for those getting raided by CBI - they deserve it.

    jeevan, mangalore,

Peter Bangalore's comments are fully justified by giving Mamata Banerjee's simple example...

I wonder why are you commenting(in support of DMK.....Thank God our judiciary is not under congi...!!!!!

"Judiciary will never be under any party".
Let the "Investigation Agency" do it's job. Only the wrong doers will be punished. People who are clean need not have to worry or bother.
