Udupi: Six of a family sentenced to 12 years in jail for attempt to murder

Udupi, Mar 21: The district sessions court on Thursday March 21 sentenced six persons of a family to 12 years of imprisonment for unlawful entry, assault, and attempt to murder a man and his family in 2009.

Nainesh, his family members Sudharshan, Subhash Nayak, his wife Nalini, Santhosh and their mother Sunanda Bai have been convicted for assaulting and attempting to murder Vincent Pais and his parents.

Towards the end of 2008, the accused Nainesh had allegedly brought a girl to Brahmavar from Bangalore. In this regard, during investigations, the Bangalore police had traced Nainesh to Aroor in Brahmavar. The police on January 3, 2009 made enquiries at Vincent's house about Nainesh's whereabouts.

Vincent cooperated with the police and led them to Nainesh's house. The girl was found and sent back to Bangalore.

Nainesh and his five family members who harboured a grudge agianst Vincent took revenge and attacked him on January 8, 2009 at his house. When his parents Lewis and Christina Pais tried to protect him, the accused attacked them too.

Lewis and Christina were then admitted to Mahesh Hospital, Brahmavar and Adarsh Hospital, Udupi. Vincent who suffered serious injuries especially on his ears was admitted to KMC.

Among the accused, Nainesh's father Babu Nandan Nayak was acquitted.

The judgement was pronounced by judge Narendra Kumar Gunaki. Public prosecutor was T S Jituri. As many as 12 witnesses gave their testimonies.

    The main reason for the attack is the police and the case already took 4 years for justice at district court.Hope it will be faster at high court and SC.

    It proves Law & Order still alive in Udupi. Great, every culprit should be funished with out any Caste or religion bar. Even the corrupt people to be funished to create a peaceful atmosphere in the locality. Jai Hind

    I fully appreciate the order from the court.Now similar yardstick must be applied to all goons who have vandalised the religious places/houses/homestay/pubs etc in the coastal area to bring about communal harmony.
