Udupi: Dhananjay Kumar confident of KJP victory, terms BJP chief a 'dummy'

Udupi, Mar 22: Despite a let-down by excise minister Renukacharya who spurned KJP and decided to stick to BJP, a confident Dhananjay Kumar on Friday March 22 said that KJP is sure to taste victory in the coming Assembly elections.

Addressing media persons in the district, V Dhananjay Kumar said that the KJP had formed four groups which will be headed by BS Yeddyurappa, Shobha Karandlaje, C M Udasi and himself to face the upcoming Assembly elections and to form district, constituency, and booth level committees.

“After finishing the first level campaign, KJP has now decided to have a convention here before the election. After many years, Karnataka is going to have a single phase election, which is scheduled for May 5; May 8 will be counting of votes and by May 10, the government will be formed. KJP will face the election independently," he said.

"In the ULB polls KJP achieved 50 percent victory. Considering the margin, we are confident of getting elected in all 224 constituencies. Names of candidates in 69 constituencies are already finalized. The rest of the names will be decided on March 24,” he added.

Commenting on BJP's new state president Prahlad Joshi, he said, "BJP has lost its identity and is not a strong party anymore. Prahlad Joshi is a dummy president, and in fact, it is Ananth Kumar who is actually their president, and who will be the main person responsible for BJP’s defeat in the state. Under him, BJP will face huge internal conflict which means the party will not have any future."

He further added, "Due to Prahlad Joshi's appointment as president, Eshwarappa is upset and Sadananda Gowda is clueless on his next step. I pity DVS who called Yeddyurappa corrupt," he said

"If BJP joins JD(S), both the parties might have to commit suicide. KJP will never join BJP. We would rather quit politics than take such a step. Our party is making all preparations to face the Assembly polls and is hopeful of victory,” added Kumar.

He said that the ruling party and opposition are not able to win the public opinion and BJP has no existence in the state.

Kumar also warned that opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Veerappa Moily, S M Krishna, and others are busy fighting for the chief minister’s post. “The problem with Congress is all are leaders and all want positions. They never had time to be a strong opposition party and fight for public justice,” he added.

Kumar said that there were positive indications about some senior JD(S) leaders wanting to join the KJP.

Asked whether KJP had approached Halady Srinivas Shetty, who has said he would contest independently, Dhananjay Kumar said, "As far as Halady Srinivas Shetty is concerned, he has neither agreed nor denied and we will try our maximum to influence him."

Dinakar, Ashok Shetty, Madukar Kundhadi, and others were present.
