Udupi, Mar 23: Robbers posing as CBI officers looted gold valuables worth Rs 1,20,000 from a woman near Light House beach road in Kaup here on Friday March 23.

The incident took place when the victim Pushpa Nayak was walking towards Diana junction from old post office at around 12.35 pm.

As soon as Pushpa Nayak reached Gomatha shop, an unknown person approached her from behind and claimed himself a CBI officer and said that his colleagues were around. Soon, two other persons came in a bike and asked her to remove her valuables and put them in her bag for safety.

Believing their words, the lady removed her gold to put it in her bag. The imposters offered to help the gold in putting the gold in her bag to which she agreed. Later the three of them left in a bike towards Mitra junction.

However, when she checked her bag after they left, she realized that she had been cheated and that the robbers had made away with her gold. The booty consisted of a chain weighing 3 sovereigns and two bangles weighing 2 sovereigns, altogether worth Rs 1,20,000.

A case has been registered in the Udupi city police station.

These robbers are from Irani gangs of Bidar & Gulbarga. Even though they are iranis they speak fluent clean kannada and also English as they are born and brought up in Bidar & Gulbarga. They are of iran origin migrated to India about 100 years ago in Caravan, and as they were categorized as Criminal Tribe by British Govt, they were moving from place to place and ultimately settled in Bidar & Gulbarga about 40 years ago, but even though they were offered land by Karnataka govt for agriculture these lazy people refused the same and continued their criminal activity.

This is the only Shia group in India which speak pure Persian as their mother tongue even today. Since they are from iran (persia) they have very good imposing personality and very fair skin just like honest Parsis of Mumbai, and hence old women immediately get impressed by them when they say that they are CBI or Police officers in Mufti. In fact wherever they go for such crime they take the help of one or two local criminals to speak local dialect with targeted victim. Usually they operate in a gang of three. Two people spot the Victim and lure her, and the third one approaches later on pretending like a stranger and he first removes his gold chain and give it to two others on the bike, just to encourage the victim to do the same. This has been going on since a decade and the real Police are unfortunately not able to apprehend them. Since the photo of one robber is available on the CCTV of Infosys, our police should send the same to Bidar & Gulbarga Police.

Its simply case of lack of awareness. Police and self help groups urgently need to educate the public. Street plays are excellent. Media need to do their bit like Daiji. Sadly local dailies are useless. You only read death news.

Well, these thugs trap only soft targets. Studying women's attire, way of moving and if they (thugs)confident that the woman in question can be duped, they would approach her. But I am sure, they won't have guts to go near to a smart and bold lady, fearing they would themselves would be in trap.

I think it is time, we men should educate our womenfolk about the cheaters roaming around in towns and villages.
