Mangalore, Mar 23: "Those with an aesthetic sense have it in their nature to love their nation and art, while those who are devoid of it are dangerous to the society," said Dr M Mohan Alva after inaugurating ‘Blend - the Essence of Nature', an art exhibition by Asha Shetty at Prasad Art Gallery here on Friday March 22.

"When we see the great art of Thanjavur, Madhubani we see a lot contribution of women to the art. The art of painting existed during the beginning of civilization whereas folkart and dance emerged much later," he said.

"Women are equally skilled as men in artwork but due to other responsibilities they have not been able to achieve greatness. A few women have managed to conduct solo art exhibitions," he said.

He also said that there will be an art exhibition organized at the 'Vishwa Alva Nudisiri' showcasing around 2,000 to 3,000 artists for which he invited the support of all art lovers.

Vishnu Shevgoor, senior artist of Mangalore lauded the encouragement of Koti Prasad Alva towards supporting Asha Shetty and the students to learn art.

"A person who has learnt life's suffering maybe able to portray art in a better form. A person has to swim across the stream to reach his destiny," he said.

Dr Ashajyothi Rai, chairperson of Aasare Charitable Trust expressed her gratitude to the artists who capture the beauty of nature on a small canvas. "Nature and experience of the life is the great teacher to the individual," she said.

Speaking to the daijiworld Asha Shetty said, "Koti Prasad Alva has rendered his support willingly to me, although I was not an artist initially I managed to excel later. I learnt this art from Niveditha and Kamal who were my teachers. From the past 15 years I have been teaching this art form to students. Acrylic, oil and knife paintings form part of my art work. My favorite theme is nature."
