Kundapur: Deprived of power and water, Pinganigudde residents lose patience

Kundapur, Mar 25: Residents of Pinganigudde second ward located within the limits of Tallur gram panchayat near here have been fed up over the repeated fake assurances doled out by people’s representatives during elections. The area, falling under Byndoor assembly constituency, has been suffering from lack of drinking water, power supply and proper infrastructure, and the people living here under trying circumstances, have decided to raise their voice.

Pinganigudde is located about three km away from Tallur via Parthigudde. Major part of the road leading to the village from Sablady is made of mud. During monsoon season, water from higher areas gush to the region, flooding the surroundings and turning the road slushy.

Even though two wells have been dug by the gram panchayat out of zilla panchayat schemes, water from these wells are not potable. A pump set stationed for pumping water to houses here developed problems several years back, and remains non-functional since then. Therefore, the people are forced to walk some distance to collect water from the tap.

The lives of the people become particularly treacherous during rainy season, as they have to wade through knee-deep water, making sure not to slip into unprotected percolation pits dug at a few places along the road. The tiny tots of the region have to walk through a pathway for two kms to reach Sablady, to attend Anganwadi centre.

Several families living here since generations, have not been allotted either the land documents, or the ration cards. Because of this problem, they are neither able to avail of benefits under various government schemes, nor get power connection. Absence of street lights and the problem of street dogs create added problems for school-going children, the people say.

Vasanti, a local, says that children find it hard to move through the road, which is not only muddy and full of pot holes, but also has drains at several places, endangering the road users. The long-standing demand and persistent approaches to government departments have not been able to get an Anganwadi centre for the village, she rues. Uday Kumar Tallur, social worker and district president of Bahujan Samaj Party, says that various protests had been organized in front of the gram panchayat, taluk panchayat, and taluk offices in the past, to draw the attention of the government to their plight, but none of the gram panchayat, talukpanchayat, and zilla panchayat members have done anything worthwhile to address their problems.

Kubera, president of Pinganigudde Action Committee, complained that the people’s representatives, who are sighted only during the election time, never make an effort to understand the problems of the local people after getting elected. He expressed his decision to organize stronger protests if the apathy towards the people here continues.

Either it is Congress or BJP or anyone. It is their responsibility who is ruling currently. Then blame should be applied for them only. BJP has no time to solve their internal problems then how can we expect them to solve our problems.

This area was orphaned due to HSS's resignation as a MLA. But what is in charge Minister Kota doing.Every Govt's first priority is to make available potable water,PHC and roads.MARCH-APRIL-MAY these three months are very critical time in Twin Districts with regarding to drinking water.Govt of the day specially makes packages for the purpose.POOJARI SAHEBRE,please look in to the matter and do needful.Particularly this year as election d, politicians are busy in ing their constituencies....

Ismail Bhai...Please do nto blame BJP govt for this also. BJP is doing its best to support the earth hour not only for 1 hour in a year but atleast 20hrs daily from past 3-4 years. You have to give it credit for such energy conservation initiative. Look at Modi, wasting power by giving it 24/7.

Sharath Bhai, intentionally I never blamed BJP in this issue.Local community leaders, local political leaders and NGO s are equally responsible for such pathetic status.Bringing Govt attention lies up on these entities also. But District In-charge Ministry specially created to solve such basic and life support issues coincidentally,Kota heading In charge Ministry that is it.

    Dear Ismail Bhai & Reshmi,

This is not the 1st season in Pinganigudde area facing water problem, even many other surrounding / similar areas having severe water scarcity issues. (Please ready Udayavani’s Kundapura-Karkala Section & Specially Chandra K Hemmady’s article) April end-May is tough time & unfortunately this year 1 month early!!

Even ex-MLA & Udupi District’s Congress President K Gopal Poojari hails from nearby area & off course this is one of his vote bank!!

Everybody is responsible in system, simply blaming or pointing towards Kota is not et al fair at this moment.

The problem here is only few votes for the politicians, thats why the poor cries are not heard. It will still continue untill some leaders like Halady or Jayprakash Hegde can take up some action. There are many such Pinganigudde's all over Karnataka which is just ignored by the Govt as there are no big voices representing them.

I agree with you Chandrashekhar. It is the responsibility of MLA's and elected representatives of local bodies to solve the problems faced by people. Kota Srinivas Poojari has been doing wonderful job so far and I am sure he will do his best in future as well. In other words I mean to say current MLA and ex MLA's along with elected representatives of local bodies are useless and should be taught a lesson.

Next time when any Candidates comes begging for vote, pls make them walk for few Kilometers so that they feel thirsty but do not offer water for them. When they ask for water, villagers should tell them that we have applied for water connection in our Village Panchayat till then pls wait for water. Shame on our Politicians, they have money to donate for anything from Matt to Mosques but not for providing drinking water connection at least and still they need Rs 300 Crores worth of helicopter?
