Mangalore: DVS, Nalin Kateel likely to contest Assembly polls

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Mangalore, Mar 25: All major political parties in the state are busy finalising their candidates for May 5 Karnataka state Assembly polls. In the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, though BJP is keen on fielding sitting MLAs seeking their re-election, the names of former CM D V Sadananda Gowda and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel have been heard doing the rounds.

Sources close to Sadananda Gowda confirmed to daijiworld that the former CM is not too interested in contesting the state assembly polls, but on the behest of senior BJP leaders in the state he has been convinced to contest from Puttur constituency. Dr Mallika Prasad is the sitting BJP MLA from this constituency. At the same time, the entry of Shakuntala Shetty in Congress party has strengthened the prospects of 'Shaku Akka'.

In the 2008 election Bondala Jagannath Shetty (who died in a road accident last year) lost to Mallika Prasad with a small margin of less than 1,500 votes. Considering this situation, and after the disastrous result of local body polls, BJP 'high command' is more interested in fielding DVS from Puttur.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP from Mangalore has expressed his willingness to be active in state politics by contesting election from Moodubidri constituency. Currently there are only two strong prospects from Moodubidri - Tulu Sahitya Academy president Umanath Kotian, and  Abhayachandra Jain, one of Congress stalwarts from the region and a powerful Jain community leader from Moodbidri constiruency, who has been winning the assembly seat for the last four elections. If Umanath Kotian is the choice for BJP, then it might be a cakewalk for Jain, but if it is Nalin, Moodbidri could be one of the most interesting constituencies in the state.

Even in Mangalore, instead of sitting MLA and deputy speaker of Karnataka assembly Yogish Bhat, BJP may field RSS hardliner, young candidate Srikar Prabhu. Though both Prabhu and Bhat's names have been sent to the high command, it won't be surprise if at the last minute if Prabhu's name is finalized. Daijiworld has learnt that Yogish Bhat would reportedly be the candidate for the parliamentary election which is due in 2014.

    @ r n Pinto, moodbidri
Sucharita Shetty jumped to BJP from JDU few years back. So his chances of getting ticket are less, because of veteran contenders of local BJP like Bahubali Prasad, Pandit etc, who built BJP in Moodbidri. Also after leaving his God father Mr. Amarnath Shetty's camp, Mr. Sucharita shetty lost his charisma as well as faith of minorities.
Nalin Kumar is fit for Hindutwa speech only, which will not impact on Moodbidri surrounding people. So, no question of defeating Mr. Abhayachandra this time. Jai Ho

If Konkanis become BJP MLAs in the event of formation of govt he will not get any minsterial berth because GSBs are considered as soft people to tolerate to partiality.Present sitting MLA Yogish Bhat is live example of this thought.GSBs are required for BJP only for ground level work tying BJP banners to poles, cleaning roads etc.,Halappas,Renukas,Bellullis, Neerullis are priority considerations for BJP.It is up to this community people to think this time whether they are still have zero tolerence to partiality by BJP bosses.Good behaviour/non corrupt nature by MLAs is a set back in BJP.

Therefore it is in the GSBs interest that they should change the stretgy and not to listen blindly to RSS/BJP this time and openly support Congress candidate so that we get a better deal even if there is no GSB MLA in the next government. We can not trust BJP and if Congress is supported they can get many things for the people. They need not face humiliation as faced in BJP govt.I am not telling Congressis good and non corrupt but best alternative to BJP after seeing their rule in Karnataka.

However, it is good for Kattel to be in Assembly as he speak only in Kannada or Tulu. If you ask me, honestly he is not fit for more than Zilla Parishat level, I had mentioned this before also in this forum Ismail Bhai. If you hear his speech its like, we have some thing called "NUDI PANPINI" which we(typically a Brahmin ) says to our Deity, I mean our Daiva during Nemothsava which is told in a typical tone to sync with the spirit coming to our deity. Thats our harmless belief, dont mean any offence to it.Or some dialogue in a Yakshagan, you can cehck this in some You tube Vedio.

His name was floating for the post of Party president not for any capability, but RSS wanted a Candidate who would dance to their tunes so that they could make more of their men like Nalin into the party & they were sure that DVS would not be a sort of thorn in their way if he is made the state party cheif. So RSS(especially Sudarshanji) was more intrested in Pushing Nalin when DVS name went rounds thats all.

1)He was MP of Udupi and asked to take MLC
2)When he was removed from there rumours of his deputation to Central Party Unit in Delhi by giving him Member of Rajya Sabha!!
3)At present if he was asked to contest to Assembly it is again from MP to MLC TO MLA with in short period of time!Yet, his position in BJP still not settled and if unfortunately looses in Assembly election,I think that could be end of his political career.(During as CM, he did not develop Puttur or Sullia, in fact,BSY made available of resources more than DVS as CM to Puttur- it is a record. So people of Puttur and Sullia are angry with him.

BJP is very much concerned about Congress waves mainly because of anti incumbency factor of 5 year's ruling which had full of ups and downs in abnormal ways. They want to cross @ least 50 MLAs want to send BSY to 'VANAVASA' as he challenged for the term!!!!On the other hand,BJP running short of effective candidates for coming election so that it is resorting for star candidates of MPs/MLCs(wherever available)

Interestingly,In Moodbidri Abaya Chandera Jain will sail smoothly if Nalin Kumar name will be flouted.Winning DVS in Puttur could be jeopardized if Shakku Akka or Vinay Kumar Sorake fielded against him.People are waiting to teach a costly lesson for BJP mainly because of follies.Apart from that there are rumours that more BJP MLAs are crossing over KJP in coming weeks.

Sri Abhayachandra Jain is very strong in Moodabidri and it is very difficult for Nalin to to win there.Congress position is all time strong if the recently held local body elelction results are any indication.
Srikara prabhu a first timer if BJP gives ticket from Mangalore South and he will have a very tough time this time as the MCC is in Congress hand and also wave is in favour of it.Compare to Yogish Bhat Prabhu is a weak conditate though considered as a RSS hardliner.Congress choice for Mangalore South may be J.R.Lobo and no other Christian candidates will win here.Congress should think of pitting a Hindu candidate in the event of Lobo's name is not on the pririty.Preferred and most viable, bankable candidate is Shashdhara Hegde through he is an Corporator now.

I am not sure whether the "Binaca Smile" of DVS will create a magic in Puttur. However, as far as Nalin Kumar Kateel is concernced, it is good for him to be in Assembly as he can atleast speak in Kannada or Tulu. So far he has been a "mute spectator" in New Delhi and has spent most of his time as MP in attending inauguration functions in D.K. and cutting ribbons...He can change his image as "MOWNA VRITHA"...
