Dubai: Karaval Milan gears up to host Konkani Mega Quiz

Dubai, Mar 27: It was an evening with a difference, a new experience for the gathering. Karaval Milan Dubai, the united forum for the parishioners of Udupi district held a curtain raiser for their upcoming events Konkani Mega Quiz and Konkani drama “Shimti Nathllo Kolo”.

The programme started with a prayer song led by Rony Byndoor. Frank Fernandes, MD, Mosaco Shipping, Joseph Mathias, MD, Merit Freight Shipping, James Mendonca, MD, Reliable Fabricators, Herman Lewis, CEO, Radio Spice -105.4 FM and Henry D Paula, editor, Kutam Weekly were present on the dais along with Karaval Milan director Wilson D’Sa and president Naveen Sequeira.

Wilson D’Sa welcomed the guests and the gathering. In his short note he requested support for the mega event from well-wishers for its success.

Karaval Milan president Naveen Sequeira gave a brief note on the journey of Karaval Milan since its birth 13 years back. He also informed about the various programmes conducted by Karaval Milan both in UAE as well as in Udupi district.

He gave details on the concept of Konkani Mega Quiz which will be of its first kind in this part of the world. He informed the gathering that Karaval Milan has always given the first preference to mother tongue Konkani in different ways. To give something new to UAE audience, Karaval Milan has decided to take this bold step of presenting the Mega Quiz. This Quiz will be held in two stages. Elimination rounds will be held on April 12, and the final round will be on May 17 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Dubai, followed by socially-oriented moral play of the late Sunny A D Souza “Shimti Nathullo Kolo”.

He also informed that to make the task easy for participants model questionnaires will be posted in www.konkaniquiz.com every Monday from the first week of April till the first week of May and requested participants to make good use of it.

Frank Fernandes raised the curtain on the Konkani drama “Shimti Nathullo Kolo” and Joseph Mathias gave a blessed start to the drama by opening the plot book and handing it over to the director of the drama Sannu Monis.

Director Sannu Monis gave a brief talk on the drama and informed that this drama will convey a beautiful message to the people who leave behind their children and go abroad in search of greener pastures. He called his team to the stage and gave a brief introduction of the artistes. Every artiste uttered short dialogue of their respective characters which was well appreciated by the audience. Adlin D'Souza, Lionel Monthero, Stany Kemmannu (Bulla), Sannu Monis, Janet Sequeira, Pius James D'Souza and Nanu Marol Thottam will enthrall the audience in this drama.

Karaval Milan had a special guest for the event - Henry D Paula, editor of Kutam Konkani weekly and also a very good friend of the late Sunny A D'Souza. He in his speech explained his deep and long relationship with Karaval Milan. He gave a brief profile of the late Sunny A D'Souza and also informed that it was Sunny A D Souza’s dream that his dramas should be played in different corners of the world and by selecting his drama he would be the happiest person in heaven and would bless Karaval Milan abundantly. He spoke of his various experiences with the late Sunny D'Souza and Sunny’s contribution to literature and cultural activities specially in Mumbai.

Herman Lewis in his speech applauded the efforts taken by Karaval Milan in organizing this event. He has shared his vast experience and encouraged Karaval Milan to go ahead and not to look back and assured his full support. He also gave various suggestions on the Mega Quiz.

Frank Fernandes in his presidential address wished all the very best to Karaval Milan and informed that it is everybody’s right to respect their mother tongue and by doing so in this part of the world with this mega event and mega quiz, Karaval Milan has raised their standards high. He called upon all the well-wishers to support Karaval Milan in their noble cause. He also spoke of some of his life experiences, adding humour and words of wisdom in Kannada.

Representatives of 27 associations in UAE were present. They cleared their doubts regarding the mega quiz in question-answer session and their questions were ably answered Naveen Sequeira.

The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Karaval Milan director Rony Byndoor who also compered this programme beautifully, followed by dinner.
