Mangalore: Harsh Gupta to be new deputy commissioner?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 27: If sources are to be believed, IAS officer, Harsh Gupta, presently working as labour commissioner at Bangalore, will be posted in place of the present deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, N Prakash. This posting will be a part of the shuffles being made in view of the forthcoming assembly election.

Harsh Gupta was born on September 24, 1971, at New Delhi. He secured an engineering degree, and served at New Delhi after passing IAS examination in 1997. He has since worked as the chief executive officer of Bellary zilla panchayat, chief manager in the department of urban development at Bagalkot, and deputy commissioner of Chamarajanagara district.

He thereafter was made the deputy commissioner of Chikmagalur district, joint commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, managing director of Karnataka Milk Federation, and deputy commissioner of Bellary, Shimoga, Mysore and Bidar districts.

Harsh Gupta, who has undergone lot of transfers and postings within a short period, is being seen as a no-nonsense officer who is not only strict and disciplined, but also the one who lays emphasis on following rules and laws.

N Prakash has completed only three months as DC of Dakshina Kannada. He took charge of the post on December 3, 2012.

He is upright and a hard task master, and does not budge to political pressures. In 2010-11, he made many changes in Mysore district and crushed many illegal activities including illegal Sand Mafia exporting Sand to Kerala inspite government's Ban. As Sand Mafia was directly operating under local Politicians Mr.Harsh Gupta incurred the wrath of local BJP politician Siddalinga Swamy who was close aide of CM Yaddi then. So, when two wild elephants entered Mysore City in 2011 and killed a man, the Politicians got a lame pretext to transfer Gupta to Bidar as if Harsh Gupta himself had invited those two wild elephants to see the beauty of Mysore Palace.

Sir Harsha Gupta, IAS officer is a good disciplined DC. He has totally changed the corrupt face of Bidar district. The people of Bidar still remember him as just and incorruptible officer. He is well disciplined, courageous, but simple and approachable. He is for the poor and the youth. Hearty welcome dear sir. Being a upright man you will be here for a short time.all the best.

What's happening? How many times the DC's are being changed is this some kind of a racket going on. Before proving themselves they are being transfered. However strict a DC or SP is it will be of no use. No change can take place anywhere unless we change ourselves and make the place we live a better one rather than depend on others. Never heard of the things happening in Mangalore today some years ago but nowadays you name it and its happening in Mangalore. Mangalore has become very expensive, accidents taking place every single day not safe even to walk on the road the attitude that No one cares for anyone this attitude has to change. Just by building big Malls and imitating the richer countries won't help all said and done we are still a poor country. Do something to uplift the poor.

Mr Harsha Gupta is a very good officer and we, Mangaloreans need very disciplined and strict officer as Mangalore is now a days increasingly becoming very very sensitive District.A strict DC and SP could do much difference in terms of law and order situation of the concerned District. There are bulk transfers on the behest of EC and is this transfers are temporary or permanent?
