Mercury rises but more snow in store


Shimla, Mar 27 (IANS): With the interiors of Himachal Pradesh still under a thick blanket of snow, the weatherman Wednesday forecast more rain and snow this week.

"Some areas are likely to experience snow and rain from Thursday," a meteorological department statement said.

It said chances of snow in the upper reaches of Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts were high.

Meanwhile, Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest town in the state with a low of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures in Shimla and Manali were 8.9 and 3 degrees Celsius respectively.

Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, saw the night temperature at 1.6 degrees
Celsius.
