Udupi: Adamant mini tipper driver causes bike rider’s death

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 30: A youth died and another suffered injuries, after a mini tipper hit an Activa Honda two-wheeler at Nittur near here around midnight on Thursday March 28. The tipper driver, who was reportedly behaving rudely, was largely responsible for the accident.

Abdul Salim

Abdul Salim (26) from Ambagilu near here lost his life in the accident, while pillion rider, Amir Ali (25), escaped with injuries. Although Salim was rushed to the hospital immediately, he lost his life a few hours after his admission there.

It is said that after a private bus and mini tipper got involved in an accident at the spot, the staff of both the vehicle had prolonged verbal altercation. The tipper driver, identified as Byalappa Myageri, remained adamant that he would not move his vehicle from the middle of the road.

After the traffic police visited the spot, the people urged the driver to remove his vehicle, after which he suddenly moved it. The tipper hit the two-wheeler that was passing by that time, causing the accident, the locals said.

Salim was operating a shop dealing with scrap near the service bus stand here, and was married a year back. Amir used to work as Salim’s assistant, it is gathered. Both of them were returning after closing the shop, when the accident occurred.

The drivers, especially, heavy vehicle in coastal belt are the worst kind and I sometimes wonder why they are given licence. It looks like they are out to kill people. I wish the RTO and traffic police penalise these people so heavily that they will be scared to drive again that way. Traffic discipline is nil in the region.

Looking at the number of articles in Daijiworld highlighting fatal accidents on two wheelers, makes one wonder if it is safe at all to ride two wheelers on the roads in Karnataka.

why arrest the driver, ? did u see his fault in this fatality ? no. u r just trying to blame the poor tipper driver. it could be that the TWO WHEELER, AS THEY ALWAYS DO, tried to negotiate his way out in spite of the two wheeler driver seeing / noticing an accident and the tipper is reversing or moving out. they have this dirty habit ( even the auto drivers ) trying to drive along without waiting for the road or the path to be cleared. i fully blame this accident on the two wheeler driver. ( ofcourse i did not see it happening ) u want a proof, stand at any junction or traffic stop or a level crossing specially , see how / what these two and three wheelers try to achieve. u r now free to pass ur judgement.
