Udupi: BJP workers gather at Raghupati Bhat's house, urge him to contest election

Udupi, Mar 30: Hundreds of BJP workers gathered in front of MLA Raghupati Bhat's house here on Saturday March 30 and demanded that he contest for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Raghupati Bhat had withdrawn his candidature after a CD allegedly involving him in sexual act with an unidentified woman was released to media channels recently.

The BJP leaders and workers, including some members of city assembly and panchayat, requested him to contest in the coming elections and promised full support to him.

However, Raghupati Bhat declined to accept their pleas.

“I do not want to contest in this election. Sex CD is nothing but conspiracy against me by my enemies. Contesting in this election will be against the ethics of BJP and will affect the party," he said.

“Apart from the two incidents of Malpe rave party and the mysterious death of my wife, my enemies had no other issue to disgrace my name. They could not fight against me in terms of development whether in terms of road infrastructure or solving water scarcity problem. This time, they have created the sex CD issue,” he said adding that his enemies have been trying hard to end his political life.

However, unconvinced with the explanations, the party workers urged him to contest elections independently if he felt his candidature woud affect BJP. They promised full support to him.

Bhat refused to contest independently too. "If I contest independently it would still affect BJP. Moreover, I do not want any sympathy votes, and hence I have decided not to contest," he said.

Responding to the demands, Raghupati Bhat promised to consult senior party leaders and then decide.

Nevertheless, the party workers kept shouting slogans and refused to leave his house if their demands were not met.

The party workers later dispersed after Bhat assured them that he would consider their plea and take the final decision in a few days' time. He also said that he would abide by the party's decision in the matter.

Even though the call-girl in the CD is a NEPALI girl, still some Saffron Brigade members are spreading rumour that she is a " Kundapura Girl". In Last July when Haladi was denied Ministerial Berth the People of Kundapura had rebelled against the RSS Leader of Kalladka and slapped his Photo with Chappals and burnt his effigy in Public place in Kundapur, Haladi, Barkur etc. These angry people were of their own BJP and not opposition. Hence, now the same people from Kalladka are trying to take revenge on Kundapur people by insulting entire Kundapureans by saying that the call-girl is from Kundapura and also indirectly suggesting that the same Kundapura people had set up the trap against Raghupati Bhat.

As per Raghupathi Bhat, CD scandal is act carried out by his "enemies", he has not taken congress or other party name. Enemies can be anywhere, including within own party.
By the way, if it was opposition party act, they would have released this CD before ULB elections to defeat BJP in Udupi dist. Why someone should accuse him after his party defeat?

Mr.Bhatt first place he should concentrate on his high profile rather than going behind the women/raveparties/landgrabbing. let him contest the election and people will deside his fate and if he loose that will be the last day of his beautiful political life.

it's a kind of tactic.... In directly pressurising High command.

People should not vote any tainted candidate despite of flag and party.

If we voters united then we can choose a best among us and send to Parliament or Assembly/ The only Mantra should be Unity. Must keep religion and cast seperate.

Irrespective of whatever Devlopments Bhat might have done Udupi, his image has taken a beating due to his wifes death issue/his friendship with the organisers of rave party & allegations of corruption now also this CD row. Added to this , the already dented Image of BJP in Udupi district, it was anyways confirmed that Bhat would not th candidate in udupi, it would be Mr Uday kumar shetty or Mr Aacharya. This candidature withdrawal issue is not just attempt by BJP for some damage control also its the need of the hour to save some honour.

It only shows the perversion of the people who have shot this. He has not raped anyone. I have seen many going to Mumbai or to Bangkok only for the sake of having some extra pleasure.

It is Mr.Raghupati Bhat's responsibility to prove that he is innocent, Because he represents people of Udupi. It is reported in some news paper that video was shot in Mumbai hotel(girl was a nepali) and the owner of the hotel is Mr.Bhat's friend. I don't know how much truth is lying in that news.State Government should take this matter seriously, otherwise this incident is a last nail on BJP'S coffin box.
I am deeply hurt too,Because Mr.Bhat's children got big shock when their mother died. Now,one more earthquake. That is enough to knock them out mentally. Hope everything will be all right at least for the sake of children.Let Mr.Bhat come out clean and pump confidence into everyone including his children and people of Udupi.

Never ever take once private life. He has not done anything wrong. It could be a sin but not a crime. He didnt do it inside the assembly. He should be given benefit of doubt and if he feels that he is implicated and framed, he should contest elections and let the voters decide his fate. No media trial please...Surely its an insider job but being a public figure me must be vigilant at least in the future and must sleep with one eye opened and one ear opened.. if he wants to survive..

Either ways its time for a change in Udupi. Last time we voted for Bhat this time we must give a chance to clean, honest and efficient Shri Pramod Madhwaraj. He has a clean track record and looks promising. We need to infuse fresh blood in politics and Pramod is the right choice. We need to keep people with 'questionable character' away from politics.

Lets not get emotional, but lets think in an intelligent manner about the type of representative we want.

Mr.Raghupathi Bhat must contest election if he is not guilty. He is the right judge here. I don't think it is a handiwork of Congress..It must be from inside people. Now media persons know the reality whehter person in the sex video film is Mr.Bhat or someone..High tech investigation will definitely lead to truth..But will they do ?

I am not a supporter of Raghupathi Bhat.Inspite of adverse comments against him, even his arch rivals will agree that he has done great development works in Udupi during his tenure and such large crowd in support of him is the testimony.Infact after reading the adverse comments as well as not knowing the authenticity of the perported CD,if one goes through the scene of it surely seems handiwork of his enimies.Since probe is ordered let us wait for the result. In the meanwhile I hope that CD issue has come in handy in favour of Bhat and resulted tremendous sympathy in his favour which will be turned into votes in the next election. Therefore it is better if the BJP nominates him again to contest in Udupi nothing withstnding the outcome of the probe as well as the embarasement the issue created.Utlimately people are masters....
