Kundapur, Apr 1: Krishnaiah Mogaveera, who died in a firing by French troops in Central African Republic last week, was laid to rest amid a sea of mourners here on Monday April 1.

Krishnaiah's body arrived in his hometown at 3 pm. A large gathering of relatives, friends, well-wishers and locals bid him a tearful farewell.

A pall of gloom descended on Balkunje even as the body arrived at the Mogaveera residence. His parents, wife and siblings were inconsolable.

The final rites were held and Krishnaiah was cremated at a ground near the house.

Speaking to media persons, Basrur zilla panchayat member Prakash Mendon said that the central government had responded well to the situation and ensured that the body was handed over to the family without much delay.

"I am saddened by the sudden and untimely death of Krishnaiah, who was known to be a good-natured person. Injustice has been done to his family, and those reponsible must pay for it," he said.

"A large number of Indians are employed in foreign countries. The government should take measures to ensure their safety and security. Krishnaiah's family was dependent on him, and Krishnaiah himself cherished many dreams. We are going through an agonising time because of his sudden death," said Ravindra, a friend of Krishnaiah.
