Belgaum, Apr 2: A girl named Tasmiya (5), who was abducted on the night of Sunday March 31, was found packed in a gunny bag in lifeless state in a plantation at Moodlagi on Tuesday April 2 morning. She had been abducted from the courtyard of her house in Laxminagar, Moodlagi, when sleeping with her grandparents.

The abductors had left behind a note, demanding a ransom of ten lac rupees. The parents of Tasmiya, being poor, had expressed their inability to pool such a large sum, and had offered to pay one lac rupees instead. As the abductors did not accept this offer, they had lodged a police complaint on Monday April 1. Angered by this action, the abductors killed Tasmiya and abandoned her body, duly stuffed into a gunny bag, in a plantation in the village.

Relating to the incident, the police have arrested a person named Vasant (26), based on the mobile phone calls made to Tasmiya’s parents. The parents of Tasmiya, supported by hundreds of angry protestors, held demonstration in front of Moodlagi police station today morning, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The situation in the village turned tense after the gathering pelted stones at the police station, and the police had to resort to bursting of tear gas shells and lathi charge to disperse the protestors, who are unrelenting.

The situation continues to be tense in the village. Additional police forces are being rushed to the place to handle the situation. The police in the meanwhile, have registered a case and intensified efforts to find out the culprits.

Mudalgi village comes under Gokak Taluk. Gokak Taluk is known as Crime-Capital of Karnataka or the Criminals Paradise. Gokak Police rarely catch the culprits. Most of the cases are closed as Accident or Suicide, or "Missing" if the dead body is not found. My neighbour - a 60 year old Udupi Shetty was murdered near Gokak and Police closed the file saying it is Suicide, even though from the position of dead body and clues even small children could tell that it is a murder.

You are absolutely right...all for sake of money. Some months back a five-year-old boy was allegedly abducted and murdered by his cousin in Kota. Police arrested who involved with crime. Kota not in Mangalore but it's of Rajasthan.
May be crime is going to increase due to poverty...if government not taken any initiative.
