Mangalore: 61 retired personnel honoured on Police Flag Day

Mangalore, Apr 2: The Mangalore police commissionerate in association with Dakshina Kannada district police and KSRP observed ‘Police Flag Day’ at police grounds here on Tuesday April 2.

Former DySP Vishwanath Pundith was the chief guest for the occasion while Pratap Reddy, IGP (western range) presided.

On the occasion, Vishwanath released the police flags which were later sold to the members present. The money collected from these flags will be used for welfare of police personnel.

As many as 61 police personnel who retired in the year 2012-13 were honored on the occasion by IGP Pratap Reddy, commissioner Manish Karbikar and by other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Vishwanath Pundith lauded the organizers for recognizing the services of retired policemen by honouring them. "I have never witnessed such honour to retired officials in my 31 years of service. Usually retired persons are not given importance, but in our district it is not so," he said.

He further said that humanity is a very important quality which every policeman should have; only then the department can grow. "The body and mind of every official should be healthy through which one can perform his task effectively. Everyone must concentrate on achieving this," he added.

"The problem with some of our police personnel is that they are not aware of certain laws which hinders them in performing their duty. "One must learn the law, so that one can handle any situation with ease," he said. He also appealed to the higher officials to respond to the complaints of lower officials and investigate complaints thoroughly without bending to political influence.

IGP Reddy lauded the eight police officials from western range and Dakshina Kannada district who recently received medals from the chief minister. He asked urged public to support the police so that they can perform their duty in a better way.

Manish Karbikar, police commissioner welcomed the gathering and Ramdas Gowda, commandant KSRP delivered the vote of thanks.

    Sir vishwanath pandith one of the finnest strict cop,who was to handle law and order very strictly.Hope we see such cops in and around DK.
