Hospital CCTVs to check parents from dumping daughters

Srinagar, Apr 2 (IANS): The Kashmir Valley's biggest children's hospital has installed CCTV cameras in its wards and out-patient department areas to prevent parents from abandoning their baby daughters.

At least 12 female children admitted to the G.B. Pant Children's Hospital here have been abandoned in the last eight months, superintendent Muneer Masoodi told reporters.

"Abandoning the female child is becoming a major problem. During the last eight months, 12 female children were abandoned by unscrupulous parents... We have installed 51 CCTVs in the wards and outdoor treatment facilities of the hospital to prevent this."

Male children with birth defects were abandoned too, Masoodi said.
